Chapter 39

When the others came home from work the nextmorning, Sylvie and Matt were sitting in the kitchen drinking coffee."Good morning. How are you guys?" Stella asked. "Much better. Atleast we were able to catch up on our sleep." Sylvie said. "And how's thelittle one?" Kelly asked. "Much better. He's still asleep now." Mattsaid. "And what about your apartment?" Shay asked. "Of course,it's uninhabitable. We'll go there today and see what we can salvage."Matt said. "I'm sorry for that. Of course, you can stay here as long asyou want." Stella said. "Thanks guys. We appreciate that." Sylviesaid. Suddenly Stella was hugged from behind. "God, Dean. Don't scare me likethat." Stella shouted. Dean looked at her with wide puppy eyes. "Howare you?" Kelly asked. Dean gave a thumbs up. "Are youspeechless?" Shay asked. "Maybe we should have mentioned that before,but Dean has a mild sore throat and that's why he has to rest his voice a bit."Sylvie said. "What about a fever?" Kelly asked, touching Dean'sforehead. "It's as good as gone. Maybe a slightly higher temperature, but thatshould improve in the next few days." Sylvie said. After breakfast Dean laydown on the couch and Kelly turned on a movie. "Is he not well?" Stellaasked. Kelly shrugged his shoulders. "You worry too much. He's just got amild sore throat." Stella said. "Yes, you are right. I've just never hadto take care of a sick kid before." Kelly said. "There's always afirst time and Dean will bounce back. Get used to it when we have kids of ourown." Stella said. "You're really thinking about it?" Kellyasked. "Why not. The last few months have shown that you would be a reallygreat dad." Stella smiled and kissed him. "Should I come backlater?" Shay asked, standing in the living room doorway with a cup of tea."No, we're done." Stella said, kissing Kelly again and walking backinto the kitchen. "I actually just wanted to bring Dean some tea. Are youalright?" Shay asked, putting the tea on the coffee table. "Yeah, why areyou asking?" Kelly asked. "Kelly James Severide, I've known you for awhile now and I know when you're lying. So come on. What's going on?" Shayasked. "I do not know either. Stella just hinted on something." Kellysaid. "Ah." Shay said. "It won't be. I'm going to sort through allthe photos from our LA vacation now." Kelly said and went upstairs. Shaysat down on the couch with Dean. Dean rubbed his eyes and sat up. "I madeyou some tea." Shay said, handing him the cup. "Thanks." Dean said hoarsely and immediately put his hand over his mouth. «Hey. You've got your voice back." Shay said and touched his forehead again. "Your fever is gone too." Shay said. Matt, Sylvie and Stella joined them a little later and they watched another movie together.
