Once home, Kelly helped Dean out of the car and Thomas unloaded the car. "Would you like to come in for a minute?" Kelly asked. "Yes please, we'd have to clear up a few formalities anyway" Thomas said. "And you'll want to take a look around the house, right?" Kelly asked "You probably know the procedure of the youth welfare office." Thomas said and smiled. "Can I be completely honest with you?" Kelly asked. "Yes, of course" Thomas said. "Kelly, can we go in now?" Dean asked impatiently. "You can tell me inside, let's go in first" Thomas said. Kelly opened the front door and they went inside. "Do you want me to show you around first, or do you want to sit down first?" Kelly asked. "Can I see my room?" Dean asked excitedly. "Then I suggest we take a look at the house first" Thomas laughed. Kelly showed them the house, the winter garden and the outside area. "So, and this is your room" Kelly said, opening the door to the room. The room was spacious and empty. "And where should I sleep?" Dean asked a little confused. «Well, I figured, since it's your room, that you can choose your furniture yourself. I now have two days off. What do you think if we go shopping tomorrow and buy everything you need?" Kelly suggested. "Ok." Dean nodded. After the house tour, Kelly turned on the TV for Dean and then sat down with Thomas in the kitchen. "Well then, tell me." Thomas said and opened his portfolio. "It's not the first time that I've tried to get Dean to me" Kelly said. "Why didn't it work?" Thomas asked. "In all honesty, I never got a real reason why Dean wasn't allowed to live with me. My guess is that it's because of my job. You know, I'm a firefighter and every mission could be my last, but I've already talked to my boss about it, I can stay at the station for the first few weeks and finally do the paperwork that has been left behind." Kelly said. "That is also the reason why I wanted to talk to you briefly. I am aware that your job is dangerous, but you are not the first firefighter I help." said Thomas. "Ok" Kelly said, astonished. "Yes, people like you are often disadvantaged because the job is too dangerous, but I think everyone deserves the same opportunities." Thomas smiled. "Kelly, I'm thirsty." Dean said, who has now come into the kitchen. "Unfortunately, I can only offer you water at the moment, but we'll go shopping later, then you can choose what you want to drink." Kelly said and gave Dean a glass of water. Dean went back into the living room and Thomas looked for the forms. "I only need a name from you that will take over Dean's guardianship in case something should happen to you." Thomas explained. Kelly thought for a moment and didn't just write down one name. After all formalities were done, Thomas said goodbye and Kelly drove to the mall with Dean. In the mall they met Nick Duffy, who often asked Kelly for help with the fire investigation. "Hey Severide, haven't seen you in a long time." Duffy greeted. "No wonder if you don't need my help anymore." Kelly said and they both laughed. "How's it going at the OFI?" Kelly asked. "At the moment we're working on a case that happened in a laundromat. Five washing machines caught fire in 2 weeks." Duffy explained. "Yes, I heard about it, really bad." Kelly said. "But now another topic, who do we have here, didn't know that you had a child." Duffy said. "Oh yes, no, he's not my son, he's my half-brother, his name is Dean and he's been living with me since today." Kelly laughed. "Hi Dean, nice to meet you." Duffy smiled. Dean took Kelly's hand and hid behind his brother. "He's pretty suspicious of strangers right now and trusts very few people." Kelly said. Nick and Kelly talked for a while and Dean got bored. He looked around the mall and saw a book in the window of a bookstore that he once read at school. Dean pulled Kelly by the arm. "Kelly, can I go to the bookstore there?" Dean asked. "All right." Kelly said and Dean ran into the bookstore. Nick said goodbye a few minutes later and Kelly went to the bookstore to look for Dean. "There you are, I've been looking for you everywhere." Kelly said when he found his brother in the children's reading corner. "Can I have that, I started reading the book at school, but never finished reading it." Dean said. "Okay, but now let's go." Kelly said and helped Dean to his feet. Kelly paid for the book and the two then went to the supermarket. "Well, what do we need?" Kelly asked, putting Dean in the shopping cart. "I don't know." Dean said and sat down. "Ok, let's see what appeals to us, but not too much, we don't have that much space in the car." Kelly said. "Ok, but we have to buy things for my lunch box too." Dean said. "Ok, what do you want in your lunch box?" Kelly asked. "I don't know either, I've never had one." Dean said and Kelly looked at him in astonishment. "Your mom never made you a lunch box?" Kelly asked. Dean shook his head. "No, she always gave me money because she thought making me a lunch box would be too much work." Dean said, bowing his head. "Hey, I'll make you a lunch box whenever you want one." Kelly smiled and kissed his forehead. "So now, what do you think if we have a barbecue tonight?" Kelly asked. "Yes" Dean said excitedly. After the two of them bought everything, Kelly stowed the purchases in the car and helped Dean into the child seat. "Kelly." Dean said. "Yes?" Kelly asked. "Are you and Stella together?" Dean asked. " Yes, actually we have been married for 4 years." Kelly said, looking in the rearview mirror with a smile. "And Matt and Sylvie too?" Dean asked. "They are married too, why do you want to know?" Kelly asked. "Well, I live with you now, I have to know that." Dean said and Kelly smiled.
