"You're really helping them then?" I sighed. Armitage had explained to me that he had given some rather valuable First Order information to the Resistance. In my opinion, he was being an idiot, especially with Pryde looking for anything to shoot him over.
"You know why, Jetta," he said, getting up from his bed and walking over to his desk. It was cluttered with all sorts of junk. He picked up a necklace and fingered it. "Do you remember when you gave this to me?" He turned around and showed the Mythosaur necklace to me.
"Of course. I gave that to you the day we were married. How could I forget?"
"Didn't you make another one?"
"I did, but I think Rosemary has it right now," I answered. I laid back on the bed and stared at the ceiling.
"Jetta, where exactly did you go?"
"Ajan Kloss," I responded. "That is where they were hiding. I swore to tell no one, but you're an exception."
"Are they taking care of Jango?"
"Yes, he's in the care of a young woman by the name of Rose Tico," I said.
"She's the girl who bit me," he said with contempt in his voice.
"Bit you?"
"Yes. Long story. Anyway, I must return to my station. I've been here too long," he said. I didn't realize it, but we had been speaking for over an hour. I stayed on the bed as he left the room, thinking about things. My life had become stressful ever since I joined the First Order. Maybe I should leave, disappear. Take Rosemary, Rayef, Jango- just vanish to the outer rim. I can raise them away from all the fighting, all the chaos. I can give them what I never truly had. My thoughts were interrupted by a small cough from the doorway. I sat up, only to see General Pryde standing at the door, staring at me.
"What?"
"You and I need to have a little chat," he said, closing the door.
"If this involves the young officer I saw you kissing yesterday, then I don't want to talk," I stated, getting off of the bed. He raised an eyebrow.
"You saw that?"
"Oh, yeah. Does your wife know?"
"I-You-But-GAH!" He stammered in frustration. "You're not to say anything about that to anyone!"
"Then get out of here. And don't tell anyone about me and Armitage," I warned. "Or that intercom in the bridge will become useful."
He glared at me and stormed out of the room- well at least after he turned around too quickly and ran into the door. I laughed as he left. What an idiot. The door closed once more and I was left alone with my thoughts. I lay back down on the bed and closed my eyes, just wanting to rest. Just rest, nothing more. Before I could stop myself, I drifted off to sleep, my thoughts dwelling only on Rosemary.
* * *
I woke up several hours later to a knock at the door.
"Come in," I muttered sleepily.
"Miss Fett?" A female officer said, entering the room.
"Hmm?"
"I hate to disturb you, but your husband needs your help. Three of the rebels have come aboard. He wants you to look for them." At this, I immediately shot up and jumped off the bed. Running over to the officer, I asked, "Where were they last seen?"
"Hallway 65-C, exiting hangar 19," she responded.
"Thank you," I said, rushing past her and out of the room. I sprinted to the indicated hangar, and searched the area around hallway 65. With no luck, I returned to the hangar and decided to explore the ship they arrived in. No one was onboard, and it seemed like a rather run down ship. There were several Sith, Mandalorian, and Imperial markings everywhere. I could decipher some of them but they made no sense. Some of the words were even Mandalorian and Sith letters combined. There was nothing in this ship that was worth anything to me, so I decided to leave the ship and the hangar and go to the bridge. A few moments later, as I approached the lift, I heard Armitage shout in pain. I ran in the direction of his groans, only to find him on the floor with a blaster shot through his leg. I quickly ran over to him and muddled beside him.
"What happened?" I asked him helping him up. He winced and grabbed his wound.
"The stormtrooper shot me in the leg. I helped him, the wookie, and the pilot escape."
"You saw Poe?"
"Yes; he said he knew I was the spy."
"Huh," was all I said. I mean, I never told Poe about Armitage but then again, I never denied anything. However, shooting him in the leg was a stupid idea. If he shot him in the arm or shoulder, then it would seem more believable. But the leg? It'll take a miracle for Pryde to believe this one.
I escorted Armitage to the medical bay of the Finalizer. I sat down as one of the ships nurses bandaged his leg. Then something hit me: that young officer said "Your husband needsendsai
She knew.
"I'm going to kill him," I muttered, supposedly loud enough for Armitage to hear.
"Who?"
"I think you know who," I said bitterly.
"Ah, him. Yes, I do know who you're referring to. Possibly. Could you clarify?"
"His name starts with P and ends with Ryde."
"Yes, that's who I thought. What for?"
"Oh, only 100 reasons. I'll meet you on the bridge; T3 needs me on the Revenant," I said. I walked over to the bed he was lying on, removed my helmet, and kissed him. He smiled and closed his eyes. As I left the medical bay, I replaced my helmet. I had an unshakeable feeling that something major was about to happen, but I couldn't lay a finger on it. Then again, with my paranoia, I felt uneasy over everything. Armitage had tried to "help" me get over my fears, but it only made it worse. His tactic was to scare me with what I feared most, believing that if he got me enough times, it would knock that fear out of me. Unfortunately, it backfired. Now, I'm more afraid of Taun-Tauns than I should be.
When the doors opened to the hangar of the Revenant, what I saw made me want to shoot every stormtrooper near my ship. On the side of it, in red letters, was painted "Bounty Hunter Scum." As I got closer, I saw T3 examining it.
"Hey, T3, what happened here?"
"I'm not quite sure. I had walked out of the ship, mostly because an alarm had begun to go off. I was about to return, but that's when I saw this."
"Any idea of who did it?"
"Sadly, no," the droid said. "If you'd like, I can begin to clean it."
"No, that won't be necessary. Come with me; we'll find someone to help us."
The droid and I exited the hangar and entered a lift. I decided to see if the ship's head security officer, Garret Mallek, would see if there was any footage of activity near my ship. T3 and I were close to his office when T3 suddenly stopped.
"What is it?" I asked, stopping and looking back at him.
"I seemed to have lost Armitage Hux," he stated. When Jango was born, I placed a device in T3 that kept Armitage, Rosemary, Jango, and my vitals recorded through a bracelet we wore. Thus, if one of us were to die, T3 would inform me or someone else.
"What do you mean?" I asked, my heart rate beginning to increase.
"He seems to have no more-" but before he could finish, I bolted to the medical bay, my heart racing. The nurse there told me he had left for the bridge. I nodded and sprinted to the bridge. My stomach began to churn, and my breathing became heavier. As I came near the bridge door, I hesitated.
What If-?
I slowly walked closer to the doors; they opened and what I saw nearly made me faint.
On the floor, directly in front of me, was the body of Armitage Hux.
I began to shake as I approached him. General Pryde turned around and chuckled.
"So, he was the spy after all," he said. "We caught him. What do you have to say, Fett?"
I ignored his question, my head aching. Collapsing beside Armitage's body, I placed my hand to his pale face. It was cold, unnatural. I shakily removed my helmet and dropped it beside me. I began to breath even heavier. Everything around me seemed to vanish. It was only Armitage and I in the room. I tried not to cry, but I couldn't stop myself. Before I knew what was happening, my head was buried in his chest, and I was not just crying- I was weeping.
My husband had just been killed.
