"Y/N, you can't be serious. This is a bad joke, cut it out."

"No, you can't be serious, Jotaro! This is the most we've spoken in a year. You're always just off doing your own thing, but you have a family. A daughter. Or did you forget? You probably did."

"Y/N---"

"This marriage is a bad joke. That's why I'm ending it. Sign the papers.... why are you looking at me like that?"

"...do you really think you could just leave me? Actions have consequences. Remember that."

Present Day:

You woke up from your nightmare in a cold sweat. It was more than a nightmare. It was a memory. And that made it all the more terrifying.

You took a moment to steady your breathing and looked at the bedside table. The digital clock showed the date and time.

February 14th. 4:00 AM.

There used to be a time when that was a happy day. A day filled with flowers and sweets, and plushies of marine animals.

Jotaro could barely look you in the eye on your first Valentine's day together. He got you the generic gifts, flowers and chocolates, handing them to you while muttering "Guess I'm supposed to show you my affection today or something".

You, on the other hand, had gotten him a book on marine life that you knew he wanted. When you handed it to him, you knew he liked it and couldn't help but smile as he tried to hide his emotions, tilting his hat to cover his face.

"Well....?" You tried to get some response out of him.

"Yare yare, stop smiling at me like that, woman."

You smiled and felt your eyes watering as you lay in bed, remembering that time.

It was a small bed, in a familiar small room. Your old childhood room. You hadn't divorced Jotaro that long ago, and you and Jolyne were staying with your parents until you got back on your feet.

Jolyne was probably still sound asleep in the room next to yours. Your parents were in the room down the hallway.

Jolyne had been upset about the move, but it had to be done. She was mopey the first couple of weeks, but she loved her grandparents. But she asked where Jotaro was from time to time.

You would only tell her that he was at work, which he probably still was. Joseph told you that not long after you left, Jotaro went back to his research, though he was much more irritable and had trouble sleeping.

Joseph... probably the best grandfather in law you could ever ask for. You had complete faith and trust in him.

"Y/N."

"Joseph? Its late, what're you doi---"

"Shh. Take Jolyne and leave now. Don't ask any questions."

You shook the memories off and tried to get a couple extra hours of shut eye before you had to take Jolyne to school.

It was hard to say the least. Keeping your eyes shut wasn't doing much as you continually tossed and turned.

Eventually, you began to get drowsy. How long had it been already? Maybe an hour?

You heard the click of the hallway light turning on outside your room, and the sound of footsteps. Your heavy eyelids wouldn't open, but you weren't completely asleep yet.

You figured it was Jolyne or your parents going to the kitchen for some water or a snack. Even though you already told Jolyne no early morning snacking she still did it anyway sometimes.

The door to your room opened with a slight squeak and the lights turned on.  Jolyne must've had a nightmare. She would often come when she had one, and climb into bed next to you.

Did she really have to turn on the light though?

You pulled the covers over your head and groaned.

"Jolyne, turn off the light."

Suddenly, you smelled the sweet aroma of something. Flowers? Cologne?

"I've barely been able to sleep without you beside me."

It was a whisper, but you could never mistake that voice. Your eyes shot open and you sat up.

There Jotaro was, looking different than the last time you saw him. He wasn't wearing the white coat and pants he usually wore, but that wasn't the only thing. His eyes were bloodshot and he just looked completely exhausted.

"You... what're you---"

He stumbled towards you and got in bed beside to you.

"Shh. We don't want to wake everyone do we?"

"What are you doing here?" You finally got out.

"This is a special day. I'm supposed to show you my affection remember?" He reached inside his coat and pulled out a single rose. "I think we should celebrate this day by having you move back in with me. What do you say?"

"You're not my husband. Get out before I wake my parents and have them call the police."

"Y/N. Please."

You looked at his face again and saw the unkempt hair hiding under his hat and the dark bags under his eyes. Had the divorce really affected him that much?

"I don't have anything to say to you."

Jotaro was growing impatient. He snatched your wrist, but didn't pull. "It's Valentine's Day, and you're my gift. Come home now."

You knew he wouldn't do anything. If there was one thing you were certain about, Jotaro would never hurt you and he wasn't going to force you to go with him.

"Get. Out."

He balled his hand into a fist and punched the wall.

"You won't get rid of me that easily. If you won't come with me, I'll just stay with you."

"Are you crazy? You---"

"Y/N, are you alright?" Your mother called from her room.

"Um, yeah, I just hit my head that's all." You answered.

"You're not hurt, are you?"

"No, I'm fine! I'm fine." You couldn't let her come in. "Just go back to bed." You breathed a sigh of relief as she did what you said.

"I knew you missed me too."

"Oh stop it. You expect me to believe you missed me or Jolyne? You didn't pay attention to us at all."

"That was a mistake. I should've never let you two run off like that. So from now on....

I'm never taking my eyes off you."

He kissed your forehead. You were too stunned to speak. He went from giving you no attention to making you a prisoner. It didn't matter where you went. He would just follow you.

He kissed your forehead. "Happy Valentine's Day."
