Cold stillness. Gray overcast skies. Light snow breaks through the sky and falls over a school campus, Empire State University. A normal school for normal adults, very smart normal adults. In a classroom within the building sits a young man, very early 20's, semi-long pushed over hair, and a light stubble. He sports a gray sweater with a yellow overcoat and blue jeans, they look as scruffy as he does. He spends most of the lecture not looking at the teacher, but at a young woman sitting a couple rows ahead of him. Red hair, leather jacket with a black top and jeans, and she's wearing a smile listening to the professor. It's almost like he's infatuated with her while also wanting to keep his distance. His attention is soon diverted when he feels a buzz in his pocket. He reaches and pulls his cellphone out.
A message in red reads: Siege on Fisk Tower ongoing. Units respond. Little does anyone know that he himself is a unit. He darts his eyes toward the professor for the first time in the class period.
"When density is controlled, there is much that can be done with it," the professor says, then goes on, "something as simple as water or sand being packed together and used with force can be very chaotic. Can anyone tell me what percent of open spaces one would see in a densest packing of sand?"
"Doctor Connors?" the man says as he raises his hand.
"Ah Parker," the professor answers quickly, almost like he was expecting Peter's response, "would you happen to know the answer?"
"No- well yes I do but... can I go to the restroom?" Peter asks, very eagerly, "It's important."
After saying that the red haired woman sitting in front of Peter looks back at him, questioningly. Peter looks back at her with a subtle look of confirmation and her expression becomes slightly more serious. She looks back at Connors who is standing looking at Peter puzzled.
"Well no doubt it's important," Connors says sarcastically rubbing his right sleeve, which is missing an arm that's supposed to fill the space, "That bladder of yours sure is hard to control isn't it?"
Peter looks at him, almost like the way a child looks at their parents when begging for a toy, but with a more serious undertone behind the face. He is going to Fisk Tower, one way or another. Luckily Connors responds after a moment of thinking. "Alright, Parker," he says finally, "but you must make haste, I'd hate for you to miss this lesson. Class ends at 12:50, as I'm sure you're aware of."
"Thank you, doctor," Peter says quickly as he grabs his bag and runs out the door. The red-head, Mary Jane, watches him speed down the hallway from the class then looks back once again to Connors, who goes right back to teaching.
