Peter and May sit and talk for hours, he tells her about going to the Bugle again to get some extra money, and she obviously asks if he needs help.
"No no nonono," he says, frantically waving his hands back and forth, "I'm fine, I promise, it was for the phone, and to... help pay the rent a little... but everything's fine."
May looks at the clock and sees that it's already 9:00 pm.
"Oh dear," it's getting late, she says, getting up and taking their cups to the sink.
"This is late for you?" Peter says, stifling a laugh.
"Oh stop it," May says, playfully, "an old lady like me has no business being up past this hour, and you look like you need more sleep. Why don't you stay here tonight, your room is yours afterall."
Peter sits and ponders her offer. Today was a pretty long day, wouldn't hurt to cool off for one night right? Besides, I still need time to think about everything that happened at the cemetery earlier.
"Sure May," he says, "I'll stay here tonight."
"Great," she says, giving Peter a hug then walking back up the stairs, "goodnight Peter, don't stay up too late now."
Peter laughs, "Alright, I won't."
He also walks up the stairs and goes down the hall to his old bedroom. He walks in and looks around. It's the same size as his entire apartment.
There's a desk by the window with a microscope collecting dust. There's science posters surrounding the room, along with some movie posters to fill the space.
There's also a bunch of Yankee's equipment. He walks to the side of his bed and looks at a framed Yankee's ticket from 5 years ago.
The last game Uncle Ben ever took me to. He really taught me that no matter how many times you lose you keep trying, and he taught me all that through baseball, no less.
He lays down in his bed, which has been nicely made and cleaned still from the last time he was there. He rolls over to face the wall, closes his eyes and starts thinking about Gwen. And the nightmare that occurred on the Brooklyn Bridge that fateful night.
Before long his thoughts are gone, and all that's left is a Peter Parker that can finally get some rest, even if it's not for long.
