The Truth

"A long time ago, there was a war. This war was known as the Hylian Gerudo War. I was in my 20's in my prime when it was going on. I was drafted for the army along with my best friend, Ingo. We weren't meant to be soldiers, our families had owned farms for generations. But putting up a fight was never a good idea. So we went with it. We trained, we made friends and enemies, and we met the queen and king of the time. During this war, I was friends with a man, named Goro.... like your brother" he sits back for a moment, and sighs. 

"Goro fell in love with a Sheikah woman named Tola, and  they eventually married. Around the same time, the three of us were asked to go on a very dangerous mission, to go into the Gerudo Fortress, and kill there young leader, Ganondorf. The mission went smoothly at first. But, sadly, we were caught by the Gerudo Guards. As I'm sure you know, the Gerudo are a race of all women, a man is born every 100 years into the tribe. He is to become there leader"

"What does this have to do with dad and the Hero of Time" he raises an eyebrow. "Allow me to finish. This story is not so cut in stone young one" he smiles. "While I was in jail, I fell in love with a Gerudo woman, named Nabooru, the sister of Ganondorf. Your grandmother. She would bring us food, and water, and eventually, hatched a plan to help us escape. It went smoothly and the four of us made it out alive. Soon after, Nabooru and I were married in secret.... and we had your mother. Soon after that, she went back to her tribe, telling Ingo and I to keep Malon safe. I hated to see her go.... but if she didn't, and he found Malon..." he shakes his head. "Around the same time Malon was born, Goro's wife, Tola, had a child, whom she named Link. The three of us went into battle, and Goro was fatally wounded. I returned to find Tola also wounded, with Link in her arms. She told me she would bring him to the Kokiri forest, and I agreed..... I never saw her again" 

He bites his lip. 

"Link grew up in the Kokiri forest. But eventually, Ganondorf rose again, and plotted to take over Hyrule. Link was destined, as the Hero of Time, to stop him. He defeated him in another timeline. Then returned to ours and told the princess of Ganon's return. Then, for a year, he disappeared without a trace. He returned later, befriending Malon, and helping us win the Hylian - Gerudo War. As they grew, Link and Malon's friendship grew into more and...." he motions out the window, where mom and dad are laughing over something. "Wait.... Dad was the Hero of Time?" I ask, shocked. I would have never guessed. I knew he was a good swordsman, and the captain of the royal guard... but the Hero of Time? Grandfather nods.

 "Kokiri, I don't want you getting hurt. But those dreams you always tell me about, are stories from other heroes. I can feel it, your parents can feel it, Nabooru can feel it. Ganondorf will rise again. And when he does. We'll need someone to stop him" He takes my hand in his, and turns it over. A triangular mark is shining on it. "The Triforce of Courage?" I ask. He nods sadly. "Kokiri, your in danger.... we all are" he warns me. Then stands up, and walks away.
