(Author's note)
**Hello new readers or reoccurring readers!
**Before you (re)read! Do take note, this story has been altered and rewritten to be more grammatically correct. There has been a decent amount of changes but the storyline is the exact same! ***I just couldn't leave this story untouched with the way past me originally wrote it. It was rancid! I don't know how y'all read that if you're coming back. **
**But this story deserves to be set at a higher standard. Plus with season 2 coming out this year, it needs to be fixed.**
**I love y'all! Enjoy!**
03/12/24—————
"Another shot of Tequila for the gentleman at the end of the bar when you get the chance," Vander spoke out, passing behind you to place an abundance of used glasses into the sink that mirrored your back.
"Already on it." You spoke out, trying to overpower the chatter of the bar just enough to where he could hear you. At that point of your response, he had already taken off to the floor to hand out a new set of drinks to various tables. You threw your table rag over your shoulder to free your hands before scanning the shelved liquor for the bottle of Tequila, only to find an empty bottle in its place. You exhaled sharply, grabbing the empty bottle to toss it in the recycling on your way to the supply closet.
You pulled the large cardboard box of liquor, letting your eyes look for the gold-colored lid of Tequila. Upon finding it, you grasped it and retrieved it from the box, sliding it back into its place before exiting the closet and returning into the chaos. Your eyes then tried to pinpoint the man who occupied the last seat at the end of the bar. It just so happened to be Paul, one of your regulars.
"Are you sure another shot will do you any good?" You raised a brow, breathing a small chuckle before opening the bottle to pour him half a shot. In ping so, you receive a snort from him, his nose wrinkling at the half of a shot.
"Fill that shit up," he grumbled, pushing the shot glass closer to your side of the countertop. You rolled your eyes before tipping the bottle back over top off his shot.
"You're cut off after this, Paul. No more," you added, tightening the lid on the bottle in your hand before taking not a second more to wait for any retaliation. You placed the new bottle of Tequila in the now empty spot on the shelf, whirling your body around to grab the dirty glasses of the vacant stools that sat under the bar top.
"Thank you." Vander hummed, walking behind the bar and using his rag to wipe it down. He glanced in your direction when you took longer than a few seconds to respond.
"Yeah." You responded with a slightly irritated tone. It was not intentional by any means but it was just one of the days where you were feeling off and stuck in your head. When that occurred, anything Vander had said just drove you over the edge. Ever since the incident that happened years back involving Vander, there were days when just the presence of him was nothing but rotten. On days like this, you had tried to keep conversations between the two of you thin, only really communicating about the bar or the kids.
"I mean it. You don't owe me anything yet you do more than you should for me. With the kids, this place, all of it. I appreciate it." He spoke genuinely, his body turning to face you. You turned off the faucet to the sink, drying your hands while you exhaled softly. Just as you started to part your lips to respond, the kids appeared from the back room making their way to the counter where you and Vander stood.
"We are heading out for a bit, do you guys need anything on our way back?" Violet prompted, leaning up against the counter next to you and Vander. Powder hopped up on the stool to get eye level with you and Vander. Your eyes met with Vander's before he cleared his throat.
