#1: Race had a real soft spot inside for animals and he hated to see one hurt. When he about 14 he found a little nest of baby mice out in the cold he felt so bad he took them in and cared for them. He named them Max, Nibbles, and Corona. When they died he cried although he wouldn't admit it and held a tiny funeral. Crutchie officiated.  

#2 I feel like Race has become the master of hiding his cigars. He has learned the skills of the perfect hiding spot and is constantly moving them around because Albert/snipe shooter is constantly stalking him to find the hiding places. It has become so intense and the hiding spots are getting so crazy that the newsies are kinda in awe of Albert/Snipeshooters skills to still even be able to find them. Race totally doesn't find random cigars he forgot about and get all dramatic like he found his lost child...
