Remington's POV
Even after Luella fell asleep the night before we had to present ourselves to the high monarchy, I couldn't relax knowing she was about to give herself away to an unforgiving council who were the same people that arranged this marriage between my kingdom and her father's. Her baby could save her life even for a while as they'd wait for it to be born, but even if they spare her temporarily, there was a great possibility that our baby would grow up without its mother. I realized then that I couldn't let Luella face this alone, and she needed everyone's help in this conflict. Very carefully, I removed myself from her grasp on our bed and climbed off before quietly coming downstairs to where I opened the front doors and stepped outside. I headed toward the castle gates where a few of my soldiers were standing guard to protect our home from any possible threats. I went up to one of them and asked, "Lucas, which of your comrades is alert enough to send a message as soon as possible?" He was confused by my request but responder with, "I'm sure that it would be me and Maxima. How urgent is this matter?" I told him, "Extremely."
After briefing him and Sloane who arrived quickly from her post about what I needed them to do, they didn't even doubt my reasoning for my request and swore to me that they would get it done as soon as possible. "May I say one thing before I fulfill your request, Your Majesty?", Sloane asked bowing her head to me, I said to her, "Very well, Maxima." She then looked up at me and asked me a question I wasn't expecting, "Should something happen to both of you but the baby's life is spared, would you entrust it to me to protect and defend it's life until my last, dying breath?" Even though it seemed like a very alarming question, I already knew my answer, "Without a doubt, Maxima. You're armor is strong, but so is your soul. You were born to be a defender of those who need it and I wouldn't trust my baby's life with anyone if it isn't you. Let's not think too far ahead to imagine something that happening though, and trust that all this will somehow work out. You and everyone here have my upmost respect, Maxima."
After that, they rode swiftly on their horses to deliver the messages I had to the people who needed to hear them as soon as possible. As they disappeared from my sight, I looked up at the night sky as stars were scattered all over and the moon shone brightly above the Earth. It brought me back to the night where I shared my first kiss with Lulu and how I knew back then I was born to be with her and she with me. If I had it in my power, I would make all of this go away and we could live our lives in peace and continue to love each other as we grow as a couple and a family. Still, I'm barely a prince who's yet to make something of himself and live up to his mother's legacy. Yet when I'm with Lulu and she tells me how proud she is of me as a leader and example of my kingdom, she makes me feel like I can do anything and I don't need anyone else's approval as a great ruler. I wish I had met her sooner and knew how much she would mean to me before we got married. I eventually returned to my bedroom where I got back into bed and snuggled closer to Lulu and feel her close to me for what might be the last time.
