The red and black clan was really one that could stand out in a crowd. Their forts were nothing below expectations—stunning hues of shining colors, mainly shades of red, black, and gold adorned the walls, painting intricate shapes on the dull grey stones below them. Where they lacked in complexity, they made up for in artistry.

Maeve had heard plenty about the Scarlet Fort. The Blood Clan had fought off an invasion sometime in history and the casualty of the invaders was so high, their blood was spilling like small waterfalls from the top of the fortress. Some of the tracks can still be seen today—where the rainwater couldn't reach. Hence, the Scarlet Fort.

How reassuring.

"We're almost there," Ryu said out of the blue. She glanced at her in question. It hadn't even been more than a few hours since they'd taken off on horseback.

"Is it meant to be this close?"

Ryu smirked and she couldn't help but bristle. "No Silverbone. It's not remotely close by land."

"Pardon?" she asked, even more confused. Her horse nickered a little, sensing her discomfort and her hand automatically reached down to pat his neck. Maeve hoped that she wouldn't lose this horse too. The stable-master had threatened her with a pitchfork that was sharper than the knives from hell.

"Just keep looking ahead girl," Ryu sighed, "You ask too many questions."

"My bad," Maeve scoffed before muttering sarcastically, but followed nonetheless.

The usually bright sky was blanketed in a layer of white clouds, the sun hidden behind them, and from the looks of it, the snow would be coming in heavy.

I hope everyone's prepared for the winter.

She'd need to get Raskinia back as fast as she could. Even though she didn't like the duties of a queen, she still cared for her people and harbored a sense of proud nationalism, like all snakes. And without her being physically present there, there was no telling whether her people were safe or not.
