❛They had sea foam in their veins and stars in their eyes. Now all that's left for them is a world filled with lies.❜

Her eyes fluctuated between gold and brown as Maeve wrestled for control with her serpent. Her defenses were raised and her vision shifted constantly and if someone even glanced at her, they would be terrified of her color-changing eyes.

The hallways shifted into darker colors as they started towards the Cave of Delphi. At first, Maeve was sure it was her vision—since it was changing rapidly, it was probably just her seeing things. But no, the sign, 'Beware of the Mist' came up in bold and Maeve escaped a silent shudder.

"As advisors, please take the left. Maeve, you must take the right. After the double doors will come a dark room. Brave it and come out. We will be watching your progress." Her father turned around and surprise flashed on his face when he met her eyes. Maeve gave him a forced smile.

Oh joy. How wonderful.

She reluctantly nodded before walking away and turning right. Out of the corner of her eyes, she saw the curious look of the advisors—particularly Fengari's. Maeve refrained the need to flip him off and took a deep breath before pushing the double doors open. A little hallway led into a lobby and she flinched when the doors shut with a deafening clang. The sound echoed through her as she took in the beautiful walls.

They were towering over her. Stunning gold engravings etched into a deep, navy blue frame. The doors that rested in front of her had handles that could make the most skillful of craftsmen jealous and paint that would make the artists of Aimakinos bleed to get a drop of it.

Being in the lobby, the advisors were right behind the double doors facing her back, the same ones she'd walked through, but the Oracle was in the front and Maeve didn't have much of a choice but to plough through the dark room. She took a hesitant step forward and straightened her spine when her fingers brushed the handles. A chill swept through her as she steadied her racing heart.

She opened the door with a push and threaded forward with light, cautious steps. It was rather misty but when the door abruptly shut behind her, everything became dark. Mist and smoke sprayed in her face as she couldn't see anything but her senses were on high alert because somewhere in a place she couldn't see, Maeve detected something dark—yet having a peaceful calling.
