I wore a mask for so long, I don't know who I am anymore. The woman that has grown strong, or the girl who is afraid to soar.

Axar and Maeve silently waited outside the ward

Axar and Maeve silently waited outside the ward. Rheghal had finished undergoing his operations—mainly stitches, though in some places, it was something more severe. Maeve hadn't been told the details.

"I'm surprised he hung in there," Axar said quietly. His eyes were troubled. "I got a glimpse of those injuries. They were equivilant to the Ring's torture systems."

She drew a breath. "Titana was an alumni right? Her and her shields?"

Axar was silent. "They didn't tell us what year."

"She couldn't be that old. But that would explain her barbaric ways to break people."

He shifted so that his back was against the wall as he faced her. "Hmm...in all honesty though, why would she want to break Rheaghal?"

Maeve sighed. "Rheaghal is another general of mine. Not as highly ranked as Visha, but he's still a trusted advisor when it comes to defensive situations around the kingdom. I wouldn't be surprised if Titana simply wanted to get hands on that information."

"You think she wants to scale and attack."

"I'm saying it's possible." Maeve had trouble swallowing. "Right now, Raskinia is unstable. Nafre is not meant to rule, and there is a lot of public unrest. There would be no better time than now to take over for a magic queen. Especially because Titana's army isn't the best at arial fighting."

Axar ran a hand through his hair and Maeve noticed its unevenness. "Okay then. How do you think we're going to get your kingdom back?"

She was silent again—still unsure.

A nurse walked out of the ward followed by a quiet yet relieved Visha. Axar and Maeve both stood up straight.

"He'll be okay," Visha blurted and she hugged her, rocking her friend back and forth as she felt her suppress a shudder of grief.

"I'm not surprised," she responded. "Your brother is a fine warrior."

Axar turned towards them as the nurse left. Maeve hadn't noticed when he'd start talking to the nurse. "She gave instructions on how to care for his back once he's discharged." He handed Visha a piece of paper, "though that won't be for a while since..."
