I was in pain. Lots and lots of pain. I wouldn't ever tell Gabe though, even if it ached while he ran. He was trying to help me, and he must've felt awful already, I mean, he just shot me. I'm his mate. In total honesty, I was thinking after I find help, we should just run off together. We could become peacful rogues. Why? Because my brothers were going to murder him. My eyes were closed the entire time he ran, and the entire time I was thinking.

"Mackenzie, you okay?" He murmured as softly as he could.

We were almost to the pack house. I didn't know how painful it might be to nod my head, so I didn't respond. It was selfish of me, I understand, but I wasn't exactly sure how to react. He entered the pack house and went straight to the hospital wing. I caught stares of surprised pack members.

"Henry! Amanda!" Gabriel shouted.

"Gabe?" Amanda questioned, coming out of one of the rooms. "Holy smokes, what happened" She exclaimed. "Get her over here!" She ordered, her nurse side kicking in. "Henry!" She called.

Gabe gently set me on an operating table. It hurt my stomach to breath. The table was cold against my arms and back.

"Hang in there Mackenzie. You're gonna be fine." Amanda murmured sweetly to me as she administered an antibiotic.

My eyes grew heavy. I expected Amanda to shoo Gabe from the room, but she allowed him to stand there with one hand on my forehead and the other grasping one of my hands (the left one). At least until my eyes closed.

My eyes slowly fluttered open, and saw all of my brothers, their mates, my sister, and her mate. I searched the crowd for Gabe. He was sitting in a chair across the room. He quickly got up when he saw my eyes open and started towards me. I was lying in a hospital bed. I examined the wrap around my torso. Zeke caught sight of Gabe and restrained him, holding out an arm.

"Let me go Zeke. That's my mate." Gabe said cooly.

"Your mate that you shot." He hissed.

"I didn't know what I was doing." Gabe defended.

"Zeke..." I murmured weakly. "Please let him." I pleaded.

Zeke gave me a look of pity before facing Gabe and glaring. Gabe pushed past and stood next to my hospital bed.

"How long do I have to be here?" I demanded quietly.

"Mackenzie... it could be a few days." Gabes smiled, amused at my enthusiasm to move around.

"Nonsense. She could be up and moving by tomorrow. Her healing is doing a superb job. It kicked in not long after the bullet hit her." Henry explained, entering the room.

"Really? It wasn't doing much of anything before that." I rolled my eyes.

"You had two cracked ribs on your right side, and three on your left. They were cracked a day or two ago, I presume?" Henry started.

"Yes, I was..." I glared at Emily for a long moment. I wanted to blab all about what she did to me... but I couldn't hurt Dalton like that. "I was attacked in the woods." I lied.

Gabe sensed my fib, but kept quiet for the time being.

"Who were you attacked by?" Dalton asked, coming closer to me.

I bit my bottom lip.

"Come on Kenzie..." He begged.

"Don't pressure her. She's had a rough few days." Gabe intervened, pulling the blame towards himself.
