The rest of the afternoon went by peacefully. I wished we had thought of coming here more often. Despite the fact that it was painful to remember my parents, the field gave me hope. Or maybe it was Gabe? Either way, I had a glorious time. When the sun began to descend, Gabe and I were already on our way home. Mostly because Sage wanted to resume chasing a butterfly. As we neared closer to my house, I could feel my stomach growl. I was hungry.

Gabe wrapped a arm over my shoulders.

"Somone's hungry?" He inquired.

I blushed and bit my bottom lip. "You heard that?" I chuckled nervously.

"Please. I could probably hear that from a mile away." He smirked.

I gave a nervous smile as I tucked a piece of my bangs behind my ear. I felt my fingertips graze over the crook of my neck as I brought my hand back to my side. You let him mark you. I thought to myself. I couldn't decide if it was a good decision or not. I assumed it was the right decision, but I'd been afraid of it for so long.

A breeze tickled my arms and left goose-bumps. I wrapped myself in a hug gently. I shouldn't be cold. Werewolves don't generally get cold. Nonetheless, I was.

"You cold?" Gabe wondered, turning to look at me.

"A little." I admitted with a shrug. I wasn't freezing, but I definitely wasn't warm.

I felt a large leather jacket fall over my shoulders. Gabe's jacket. I looked up at him, a smile painted over my features.

"Thanks." I grinned, wrapping the jacket around myself better. "You're not cold?"

He gave a little laugh at this remark. "No, I'm fine." He assured.

The rest of the walk home was pretty silent. I measured our breathing patterns as we walked to my house. When the house was close, I felt him entwine our fingers together. We stepped up onto the porch as the sunset's radiant colors surrounded us. He gently squeezed my hands.

"I think I should get home." he murmured.

"What? Why?" I asked suddenly.

"Your brothers don't exactly love me right now." He reminded.

"It doesn't matter what they think." I told him, crossing my arms over my chest.

"For the moment, you live under their roof, so I don't think they want me in your house." He explained with a heavy sigh.

"Gabe, you've been in my house since the accident." I groaned. "You're my mate, and they'll just have to deal with it." I added.

"Mackenzie, I shot you. How can you not be the least bit angry with me?" He muttered, confused.

I placed my hands on my hips with a long sigh. "Gabe, I don't want to go through this. You need to stop feeling guilty about what happened. It wasn't your fault. I forgave you, and that's all that matters." I tried to explain. I wished he'd let what happened go. It wasn't his fault. He didn't know what he was doing.

"I'm gonna go back to my place. You're more than welcome over there. Besides, my mom is seriously straightened out for the time being. She hasn't had a glass of any form of alcohol since I got back." He told me enthusiastically.

"Gabe." I groaned once more.

"Hey, I'll be back first thing in the morning." He promised, holding my hands a little tighter in his.

"Okay..." I finally gave in.

He pressed his lips against my own. It was definitely one of our more meaningful kisses. When he pulled away, my hands were wrapped around his neck, and his around my upper waist. He stared deeply into my eyes for a minute. I returned his gaze.
