Once dinner was done, I went to set the table, placing the chairs, silverware and utensils in the exact order Aunt Vanessa liked. She tasked me with preparing our meals since she, and I quote; 'I am the Luna of this pack and therefore, am not supposed to be in the kitchen'
Bailey couldn't cook to save her life. The most she could do is make peanut butter sandwiches and tea. Which didn't really count as cooking since the bread was pre sliced, the peanut butter was in a jar and the tea just needed to be heated in the microwave with water, milk and sugar.
With the deer cutlets in the center of the table, I placed the roasted vegetables and baked potatoes next to it. Uncle Trevor liked green beans with baked potatoes so I made those too. For desert I baked a strawberry shortcake. Just as I finished setting the table, I heard the front door open and in came Aunt Vanessa, Bailey and... Bradley?
"He's supposed to be at the Alpha training center. What's he doing here?" I wondered to Keira.
"Don't know, his mother probably bribed the headmaster and got him home earlier than he was supposed to. He's only been gone for four and a half months," Keira replied.
"Karina I hope dinner is ready to be served, Bradley is here and he's hungry," Aunt Vanessa announced as she strolled into the dining room with her vast assortment of shopping bags.
"Yes Aunt Vanessa, dinner is just about ready. I wasn't expecting Bradley tonight otherwise I would've added an extra piece of deer. There's only four pieces," I told her."No matter Mom, we'll just give Bradley her piece of deer. It's not like she needs the protein, she's fat enough as is," Bailey snickered as she poked me in my stomach, making me winch and step back. I wasn't fat, just curvy at my hips. How could she be so mean?
"Take Bradley's luggage upstairs, get another plate and be sure to give him your piece of deer," Aunt Vanessa instructed with an impassionate look on her face as she opened her bags and searched through its contents.
"As you wish," I sighed as I took Bradley's suitcase and carried it upstairs, straining with the weight as I did.
"While you're at it cuz, you can unpack my stuff from it," Bradley shouted, causing him and Bailey to start laughing. With a sigh I toted the heavy bag up and carried it to Bradley's room which by the way was on the second floor. The elevator was unfortunately out of service so I had to lug the damn thing up the two flight of stairs and down a long corridor.
When I reached Bradley's room, painted in dark blue with white carpeting and an adjoining bathroom, I dropped the bag on the floor and heaved a sigh of relief. When I had caught my breath, I began unpacking his clothes, putting them in the correct places as well as his toiletries.
Putting the empty suitcase back in his closet I went downstairs where the three of them were busily admiring the jewelry Aunt Vanessa bought. My eyes widened as I caught sight of a thick gold chain dangling around Bailey's neck. That must've cost thousands of dollars. What was the need to purchase such an expensive piece of jewelry when she already had so many?
Which by the way she absolutely loves to show off at parties, social events, receptions and charities. Me, I was perfectly content with a simple beaded necklace, matching bracelets and earrings. I liked pretty things too but they weren't a major part of my life.
I seldomly indulged in frivolous socialism, barely attended huge gatherings and made it my business to stay away from large crowds. Some wolves called me a nerd because of it. I may be well liked at Blue Moonstone Valley, but not everyone felt the same way about me. Take these three for example.
