My phone rings just as I step out of the cafe after an 8 hour shift. Rolling my eyes, I pull it out of my pocket and take a look at the caller ID to see Alex calling, which is weird considering the fact that we barely talk. I take a few minutes to contemplate picking it up but end up sliding my finger across my screen and put the phone by my ear.
"Hey Alex, whats up?" I hear breathing at the other end before Alex slowly replies.
"Cynthea, do you know where Jaxon is?" Letting out a breath, I lean my head against the brick wall behind me and shake my head even though I know he can't see it.
"No, I just got off work, is everything ok?" There's a pause on the other side. "You can trust me Alex."
"There's a meeting at his office, and he hasn't showed up yet. It's really important and I know he wouldn't ditch but there's just half an hour left for it to start." I take a deep breath, a dismissal on my lips when Alex adds, "Cynthea, I'm worried, he's always here in the morning and he's not picking up the phone, I'm not just talking about right now, it's been like this for the past couple days. He hasn't showed up at all or picked up his phone. I also went to his house and no one opened the door, he's probably home but why would he ignore me. C-can you check on him? Maybe he'll respond to you." Letting out a sigh, I nod my head.
"Yeah don't worry, I'll check up on him. Thanks for letting me know." Saying our goodbyes, I hang up and ring Jaxon's phone which goes straight to voicemail, looks like Alex was right.
I end up taking the bus in town to Jaxon's place with Alex's concerned voice running through my mind. I just saw Jaxon three days ago, nothing that bad could've happened, right? Shaking my head in dismissal, I make my way up the stairs to Jaxons place. After ringing the door bell twice and not getting a reply, I start to get a little worried. I know Jaxon keeps a spare key, which he accidently revealed to me once when he forgot his keys at the cafe, under the tiny plant he has right next to his door. Leaning down, I lift the plant up and pull out the key. I feel like I shouldn't do this, am I intruding? Even with these doubtful thoughts, I go ahead with my plan and open the door. The first thing I notice is that the place is a mess. There are alcohol bottles everywhere and even broken ones. Stepping around the glass shards, I walk closer to the kitchen when I spot him. He's so unnoticeable I'm sure I wouldn't have been able to see him had I not seen the two bracelets I had given to him at the beach on the ground. Jaxons crouched next to the couch with a something in his hands which he's staring at intently and he looks to be drunk out of his mind. There are dark eye bags under his eyes and his hair is ruffled and messy. Regrets fill my mind, why didn't I call him before? Why didn't I come any sooner?
"Jaxon..." I whisper breathlessly as I make my way to him. As I get closer, I notice that the thing in his hand was a frame, it's a picture of his mom, dad and him when he was younger. He showed it to me the day after we set up the picnic for his mom. Crouching next to him, I set my hand under his chin and lift it up so that his eyes meet mine. "Jaxon..." I repeat, not knowing what to say, even without asking him, I know what happened. So when Jaxon looks at me with eyes that are filled with grief, all I do is pull him into a hug. After a minute, Jaxon wraps his arms around my waist and buries his head into my chest as he cries. I don't hear him cry but his shoulders shake and I feel the wetness of his tears. My hands wrap around his back and I rest my head on his. I'm not letting go of him until he's ready to get up, no matter how long it is.---
This is pretty short but I will update soon don't worry lol.
