The Power Of The Sun In The Palm Of My Hand

All night Peter kept apologizing for missing our date and screwing up our night and I told him I wasn't even angry anymore. I was just happy he wasn't crushed on his bike, and that he didn't die falling from the sky. We fell asleep peacefully in each other's arms. The next day we went to our school classes. Peter and I read the second article that came out about Spider-Man and Spider-Woman. He was so proud of me and I loved it. It completely made up for last night.

Later that day we went back to the Octavius home to watched his demonstration. Peter was worried and so was I. So we suited up like normal, just in case.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, my wife Rosie and I would like to welcome you this afternoon. But first, before we start, has anybody lost a large roll of twenty dollar bills in a rubber band?" Otto asked. Peter and I entered the room and we stood next to Harry. "Because we found the rubber band." He joked and the room laughed. "It's a terrible joke. But thank you for coming. Today, you will witness the birth of a new fusion-based energy source. Safe, renewable energy and cheap electricity for everyone. And now let me introduce my assistants."

He walked over to a large sheet and pulled it off revealing a set of four mechanical arms. The room oo'd in amazement. Peter and I grabbed each other's hands as we watched cautiously. Otto took off his robe showing his white undershirt and put his back up against the device allowing it to attach to his skin.

"These four actuators were developed and programmed for the sole purpose of creating successful fusion. They are impervious to heat and magnetism."

The device closed around his waist and locked into place. A large metal bar aligned with his spine crawling up his back and little pins locked themselves in place, inside his skin. Octavius cringed in pain and a little chip with a light was at the top on the spinal mechanism. He focused for a minute and that's when we saw the mechanical arms start to move. They lifted from their placements and the ends opened into claws, that could grab things like fingers. Otto Octavius lifted his hands proudly and the mechanical arms did the same. Giving him six arms, eight limbs in total.

"These smart arms are controlled by my brain through a neural link." He explained and we could see what each arm was looking at on a television screen. "Nanowires feed directly into my cerebellum, allowing me to use these arms to control the fusion reaction." He began walking towards the crowd of us and most people stepped away. "In an environment no human hand could enter."

"Doctor, if the artificial intelligence in the arms is as advanced as you suggest," A reporter next to me stated. "Uh, couldn't that make you vulnerable to them?"

"How right you are." Octavius agreed with a smile. He turned and showed us his back. "Which is why I developed this inhibitor chip," He pointed to the small light at the top of the spine. "To protect my higher brain function. It means I maintain control of these arms, instead of them controlling me." He turned back towards us. "And now onto the main event. Give me the blue light, Rosie."

He gestured his arm back as it was revealed, the same machine we saw yesterday, fully built and ready for use. The fusion reaction chamber. Otto and his arms walked towards the machine and we all followed him. One of the arms reached out grasping a very tiny vile with a silver metal contained inside.

"Precious tritium is the fuel that makes this project go. There's only twenty five pounds of it on the whole planet." Octavius explained placing the small silver metal into the chamber. "I'd like to thank Harry Osborn and Oscorp Industries for providing it."

"Happy to pay the bills, Otto." Harry called out to him with a big smile and his arm's sat across his chest.

He pressed a few buttons and the arm let go of the ball, allowing it to float mid air inside the chamber. It began spinning quickly in place and Rosie walked over handing him goggles. The pair looking loving at each other as the experiment started.
