Two days passed, before it finally happened. After we finished breakfast we had to go, get some weird pills-no one knew what their affect was, because they never told us, we tried to not take them but they caught us-and where told, what our schedule for today was. We always had to exercise, take lots of medicine, study or go to some crazy doctors. Everything that Coin and the other people running this shit thought were necessary to create perfect human beings. It was kind of like in district 13, with the schedules, I mean, they even were both run by Coins, but if you got into trouble here, you'd be punished and you don't even wanna know, how.
So when our station was at the desk to get our schedules, we found out, that we'd finally start the course, to make us fit for the real world. Everyone was excited and happy. Most of the people on our station were 18 or 19 years old, only Rue and I were already 20 because we messed up by organizing our own small rebellion or pranking the staff two times, while trying to get out. So we were determined to pass this time, even though we loved to make the staff a hard time. When my sister fought for justice, then I could resist a bit as well.
Anyways, we had to take a class at first to learn our new personalities, because they wouldn't let us out there, acting and being named like ourselves. We all got envelopes where we found a name, a district and a job, that we'd take. "Rue, wich district are you?", I asked her next to me. "District two. You?" "Ha! Same!" We high-fived and the guard, leading this course, glared at us warning. We grinned and continued to read our scripts. I'd be a woman named Lola Niobe and I'd start as a teacher in my new district. I looked over to Rue and we silently exchanged our papers. Her new name was Helena Melpomene. I had to giggle. "Are those silly names or are those silly names? Can't they at least let us have cool new identities with names like The destroyer?" , I asked and Rue laughed, wich brought us another angry look. She'd have to start working as an engineer, wich I couldn't imagine at all.
"Now that you know, what expects you, you will take part in classes, where you will learn how to perform your future job, integrate yourself back into the community and stay as flawless as we made you while staying undercover." "Did they though? I think we're pretty much the opposite of flawless.", Rue whispered and I had to suppress my laughter. While other people gave up and started to develop like the GEOP wanted them to, Rue and I pretty much did the opposite. Most of the people sat straight, looked perfect and had good manners, while we tried coping with the trauma we experienced through laughing and making jokes while making it hard for the staff to get through us. That mostly didn't end good for us, but we kept resisting and didn't care, that the others didn't like us that much. We had each other and that was all, that mattered.
After another two hours of learning, how we were Panems last hope and had to spread our kind of perfect we were finally allowed to take a small break, before there'd be classes to prepare for our new jobs. "Gosh, how am I going to survive this without you?", Rue cried out dramatically and threw herself into my arms. "Do you thin, I am going to survive? See you in heaven!", I answered. "No. We won't die. Not after we made it this far. We're gonna get out of here and see how it's looking out there and we'll finally visit our families.", she said motivating. "Sorry to destroy your dreams, but I'm not really sure, if we can do that. I'd love to see Katniss or Mom again, but I don't think they're going to let us.", I sighted. I wanted to go home so badly. But on the other side, where was my home? When I last saw it, District 12 got destroyed by the Capitols bombs. And since I came here and met her lovely sister I knew for sure that president Coin was bad and the survivors couldn't live there forever. So where were my sister and my mom? Or Gale? Or Peeta? What happened to Buttercup? I missed them all so much and I hadn't have a bigger wish then to hug Katniss and never let her go again. I didn't even realize, that I started crying, until Rue pulled me into a hug.
"Don't cry. Please, if you cry, I have to cry and if I cry, I won't be able to learn how to become an engineer. We're going to find a way. I mean, we stayed sane in this building of hell, so it'll be a piece of cake out there. We'll figure it out, just think positive and learn how to become a good teacher, okay?" I nodded and hoped, that she was right. Because I couldn't bear the thought to never see my family again, even though I thought it so many times before.
"The break is over, everyone go to the assigned rooms!", a guard shouted at us. "See you at lunch.", I smiled at Rue and she smiled back. I entered the room for teachers and found about ten other kids there. "Okay, lets check your attendance first.", the teacher, a tall men with a dark buzz cut that was also a night guard often, said. He read a list of names and when I didn't react, he came to my table and shouted in my face: "Niobe, I see you, why aren't you reacting, when I call out your name?" When I realized, he was talking to me, I said: "I'm not Ni-something, my name is Everde-" He slapped me. "I know damn well, what your name was, but it's not yours anymore. We are going to call all of you after your new names, so you'll get used to them! And if I hear another rude comment like this from any of you, it'll have harder consequences, understood?", he shouted and went back in front of the class, leaving me rubbing my burning cheek and completely speechless.
