Y/n had felt Erwin getting up and off the bed around an hour ago but she only opened her eye lids when he left. She looked at the desk inches away from the bed and saw a sandwich on a plate with a note attached.

I won't be back until late at night. As you can't leave my room just yet, I picked out a book for you to read so you don't get too bored. The book is all yours if you can read it

does he take me to be illiterate?

Reaching further for it, y/n noticed the front cover.

There was another note on the back.

This book was lent to me by a friend and I've been wanting to return it but he's a little tricky to track. Whatever you learn I advise to keep to yourself.

With curious hands, she opened it up but soon found the book was empty. There was hundreds of plain sheets yet only the first contained ink that she read.

"Only with eyes of red will these pages be read..? Eyes of red?"

To y/n, it was normal to see her people's eyes glow red at night. So it was strange when she was forced to venture beyond her town and found nobody's eyes did.

Before that day, her mother's eyes had never shone with red. That was the day y/n learnt her mother left the village every night to meet up with Grisha Jeager. She'd caught the two kissing and had never seen her mother so happy, that moment. Her eyes glowed sapphire red.

Y/n let out a sarcastic chuckle and set aside the book after closing it.

Getting up, she brushed her teeth with a brush Erwin had written her name on, then took a shower. She put on a pair of his boxers and one of his white shirts. Seeing as there was nothing else to do, y/n picked out a few books from his shelves. They were all about the history and culture of Shiganshina which set disspointment in her as she knew her culture would be hidden. But to her dismay, she read read a couple pages of the first book with a face of bewilderment.

but how? I was sure no one paid much attention to us. This town did everything to cover us up as much as possible

Yet the book contained names of flowers only grown in her village and meals only cooked by her people. Things outsider's wouldn't know.
