Tonight is the night before
The last day of the year.
A swirling sun will wake me,
And the heat in my stomach will all but take me
to the face of my lover,
The face I returned to for peace.
Our palms match better than our lips,
And fit like we were made separately at the same time.
His arms hold me better than my favorite sweater,
And catch me as if I've been falling endlessly.
A month short of a year spent with a man,
Just approaching my record.
And I will shatter it.
I will no longer speak of things that brought me pain,
That brought him pain,
And that brought you pain.
Going forward, I am love.
I am healing.
I am forgiveness.
I am no longer a destroyer, and perhaps I never was.
Tonight is the night before the last day of the year,
And I am turning my mirrors around,
I am leaving my doors unlocked,
And I am sleeping with one blanket.
The birds in the morning will wake me,
And the sun beating down will bake me.
I will kiss my lover at midnight,
Something I was denied for years.
And I will kiss him every year,
On the last day of the year,
Forever.
