Oh. My. God. I am sososossoo sorry, I know it's been an unforgivably long time since I last updated. I had a bit of writer's block with this chapter, but I have some ideas for the next one so it shouldn't take too long for that one to be up. I promise the next one will be longer too! Anyway, read, vote, comment, and fan! Thanks! And thanks for sticking with me!

Chapter 5

Parker’s POV

“Nick, may I speak to you privately?” Elise asked calmly, although I could tell she was gritting her teeth. Whether it was in pain or anger or what, I couldn’t tell, but I could tell I was going to be getting an earful. It was kind of expected, to be honest, I would have been upset too if someone had left me in pain and confused in a hospital. I nodded and watched dispassionately as Elena exited uncomfortably.

“What the fuck, Parker?” she demanded angrily. Yep, she had been gritting those pearly whites in anger, although I saw her wince as she sat up to be more intimidating.

                “What?” I feigned idiocy.

“You left me here! Alone!” she exclaimed lividly.

“What did you want me to do, Elise? I had to go! It’s my entire life, baby cakes! And newsflash? You’re not my mother, you’re not my girlfriend, and you’re definitely not my wife!” I shouted. Oh no. Had I really said that?

“Thank God I’m not,” she murmured and then turned to look out the window. Apologize, Parker, my brain told me. Tell her you didn’t mean it. You were just being stupid.

My mind kept egging me to apologize but for some reason, my pride wouldn’t let me. After an awkward silence, Elena finally knocked and I went to let her in.

“So, Missy, where have you been? You don’t call, you don’t e-mail me, you don’t even shoot me a text every once in a while! The only contact I’ve gotten from you in six years was the Christmas cards and the birthday presents!” Elena mocked disappointment as she sat in the chair next to Elise’s bed and gripped her hand loosely, attempting to avoid hurting the small burns splattered on the soft skin of her hand.

Elise looked a bit uncomfortable, but she covered it well, I had to admit. She smiled brightly, although it didn’t quite meet her hazel eyes. Those were still flashing anger at me every few seconds, and I was beginning to squirm under their intensity.

“I’m sorry, E. How could I help it though when you were always with Jackass over there, though?” Elise asked tightly. Elena nodded knowingly.

“He’s good pay, so I stick around,” she laughed, earning a small titter from Elise too.

“And how’s that lovely sister of yours?” Elena inquired kindly. I watched as Elise cringed and I myself shuddered slightly. Elena had no idea that the woman I had cheated on Elise with had been her sister Marjorie at all. She had thought it was just some random hookup. But that had been the bet with the guys, and I had followed through.

“I don’t know. I haven’t spoken with her in quite a while,” Elise finally responded. Her eyes told me that it had been six years since she had spoken to Marjorie.

“Oh, that’s too bad. She was a real sweetheart if I recall,” Elena said thoughtfully, blissfully unaware to the havoc she was playing with both Elise and I. Finally I had had enough and I stood up to leave.
