It was the next day. Meredith had spent almost the whole day sleeping, she was refusing to even try to eat. Yesterday she had tried to have lunch but she forgot how to use knives, forks, we couldn't do the simple task and Derek was almost hoping she would sleep through breakfast, he couldn't have another fight over it

"Hmm" Meredith groaned as she finally woke up after hours and hours of sleep "D-Derr?" She slurred

"Hey sleepyhead" He smiled softly as she opened her eyes

"Don't- No?" She frowned

"What's wrong?" He asked concerned

"No" She shook her head and sighed

"I brought some audiobooks.. Maybe that will cheer you up a bit" Derek said softly

"Hmm?" Meredith frowned as she seemed to think

"Audiobooks. We can also listen to podcasts" He suggested as she bluntly nodded

"Breakfast" A nurse announced as she walked inside

"Thank you" Derek sighed as he saw his wife was already looking away

"No" She said sternly once the nurse walked out

"Mer, you need to eat. I'll help"

"Help?" She frowned and slowly lifted her left hand as she stared at it

"You only have one hand, I can help you out for now" He suggested again

"No" She sighed "G-Grace?"

"Alex said she was good. She slept in your office" Derek shortly explained as he noticed she lost her attention and started staring ahead of her without any reaction to Derek talking to her

"It's okay. I'm here. Grace is doing okay. We love you" Derek kept whispering to guide her through these kind of seizures

"Uh?" She mumbled a few minutes later "G-Grace?"

"Alex and Gracie are on their way" Derek assured her

"Uh.. S-Scared?"

"I'll explain to her, it will be okay" Derek softly said as a knock on the door disturbed them "Just going to talk to her now, okay?"

Meredith nodded in response and started staring out of the window as a single tear escaped her eye

"Hey princess" Derek smiled softly

"Can I see mommy now?" Grace asked with a soft voice

"Of course, baby but there's a few things you should know before we head inside" Derek softly tried to explain as the little girl nodded in agreement "Mommy's brain is a bit sick which makes it a bit hard for mommy to talk right now but she can cuddle, she can give kisses" Derek explained

"I wanna see her" Grace whispered

"Let's go" Derek lifted her in his arms and gave Alex an assurant nod

"Mommy" Grace smiled as Derek carried her inside the room

"G-Gracie" Meredith smiled, her right side of her face slightly drooping

"Can we cuddle?" Grace asked with an innocent voice

"Y-Yes" Meredith softly breathed and let the little girl climb into bed with her, cuddling into her left side of her body

"Mommy, are you sick?" She asked

"Sick?" The word sounded so hollow "Uh-" She started thinking

"I hope you're better soon" Grace giggled and kissed her mother's cheek "I love you"

"I-I love you too" Meredith whispered as tears started streaming down her face

Derek was smiling. She seemed to do better with Grace than she had been doing with anyone else. Grace wasn't scared or she didn't love her mother any less

"Nnnn-" Meredith started slurring

"Mer, shh. It's okay" Derek softly rubbed her back

"Daddy, what's happening?" Grace asked concerned

"Mommy's having an absent seizure, it's okay Gracie. Mommy's brain is taking some kind of power nap"

"Oh-" She breathed and kissed her mother's cheek "I love you mommy" She giggled as she held tight onto her mother's hand

"I- Oh" Meredith breathed as she was responsive again

"Mommy, your brain's awake again" Grace giggled

Meredith was frowning but didn't even bother to ask. Derek could see she was exhausted, especially because of the seizure

"Take a nap. Grace and I will stay with you" Derek kissed Meredith's forehead

"N-Nap" She repeated as if she was looking to give some kind of meaning to the word "Yeah.. Nap" She sighed after a little while

"Shh mommy, we're taking a nap" Grace giggled as she pretended to be asleep. She opened her eyes and gave her mother a soft kiss before she closed her eyes again. Again, another tear escaped Meredith's eye before she closed them

"I love you, Meredith Grey" Derek whispered

"Love.. Love too" She breathed

Derek softly climbed in next to his girls in the bed and hold them both as they were asleep in his arms

During the day Meredith had slept a lot. She seemed to love taking naps with Grace. Their snores were probably heard everywhere in the ICU but that wouldn't be long anymore. Tom had cleared Meredith for a regular room and of course Bailey had made sure she would get the best room there was on the neuro wing

"Okay Meredith. Let's bring you to your new room" Tom smiled softly

Meredith was frowning but nodded anyways

Grace kept sitting on the bed and was still cuddled into Meredith's left side of her body. Derek was helping Tom by pushing the bed into the hallway

Meredith seemed to be uncomfortable by all the people staring at her. Derek had no idea if she remembered all of them, the extend of her brain damage was still unknown and further tests and therapies and all those things should be clear in the next few weeks

"D-Der.." Meredith's breathing quickened

"We're almost there" He assured her "Close your eyes"

"It's a fun ride, mommy" Grace giggled softly "But Tom and daddy are slow"

Meredith nodded softly. Derek had no idea if she didn't understand her daughter's joke or if she was too stressed to see this as a funny thing so Derek just kept focussed on his wife and daughter and kept pushing her bed as they made their way to the neuro wing
