"Mer, I need to go to the store real quick, you wanna join me?" He asked as she finished her PT session

"Not quick- uh.. b-but yeah" Meredith nodded her head softly

"Poppy, let's get ready" Derek chuckled as he saw the dog's tail wiggling from side to side

"Poppy stay- stay mommy" Meredith said as Derek had put on her jacket

"Neither me or Poppy are leaving you. I promise" Derek kissed her head "And maybe we can go get Grace once we're done so we can stop For ice cream"

"Ice cream" Meredith whispered with a smile

"Strawberry ice cream" Derek chuckled and pushed her towards the car. He helped Meredith before letting Poppy get in. He made sure her leash was secured and then got in himself

"Many cars" Meredith sighed as Derek drove to the store

"It will be okay. Poppy and I are with you" Derek kissed her lips and helped her out of the car

"Poppy stay mommy" Meredith repeated, her hand grabbing onto his collar

"Poppy's staying with you" Derek assured her and they made their way inside

Meredith wasn't able to look up, her gaze was fixed on Poppy, it seemed to calm her down a bit

"Sir- Sir!" Someone yelled

"Yeah, can I help?" Derek frowned

"No dogs are allowed here" The man said

"Oh but she's a service dog. For my wife" Derek frowned

"I'll really have to call the manager, can you wait here?" The younger man asked

"Oh- Of course" Derek frowned as anger started boiling in his body

"D-Der?" Meredith anxiously whispered

"It's okay Mer. Just need to tell the manager that Poppy's a service dog" Derek grabbed her hand as he noticed Poppy was licking the other one, indicating Meredith was completely stressed out

"Excuse me sir, this is the manager" The young man smiled apolitical before he walked back into the store

"I'm sorry, dogs aren't allowed here" The manager said

"I'm sorry sir, this is Poppy and she's my wife's service dog" Derek told him

"Well can't your dog wait in the car?"

"In fact no because you can't deny us access to this store and my wife needs her dog" Derek argued

"D-Der-" Meredith whispered again as she was holding tightly onto Poppy

"I'm not giving you access. Dogs don't belong in this store!" The manager raised his voice which seemed to get a lot of attention by the other customers. People started staring at Meredith and Derek with all kind of expressions on their face

"Then you won't see us here again" Derek grabbed the handles and pushed Meredith out of the store back to their car when Poppy started barking

"I told you dogs don't belong in stores!" The manager yelled before he walked back inside

But Derek knew this was more than just Poppy barking, this was Meredith who was about to have a seizure and all he could do was hope it was a small one and that she would be fine

Derek immediately put on the brakes on her wheelchair and held her up as she was slowly slipping

"Sir, is everything okay?" A young woman asked

"She's having a seizure, it's okay-" Derek said but it became clear it was a full body seizure. Derek helped Meredith's body on the ground and held her on her side while the younger woman held Meredith's head

"Oh my-" The manager walked towards them "Do I need to call 911?" He asked

"No. We're used to it" Derek snapped while he refused to even look at the man

Poppy made sure the man didn't come too close to Meredith, he was protecting her very carefully

"D-Ddddddd" Meredith slurred as she regained consciousness

"Hey, I'm here. Poppy's here as well" Derek smiled as well as he saw how Popp kept licking Meredith's fingers

Meredith's hand softly reached out for Poppy's fur

"How are you feeling?" Derek asked but Meredith could only shake her head. She could see everyone staring at her and she had a hard time

Derek had seen the fear in her eyes but immediately knew what to do

"Close your eyes. I'll carry you in the car and then we'll drive home" Derek softly said

"G-Grace" Meredith muttered weakly

"We'll go get her" Derek scooped up Meredith and placed her in the car seat. He buckled her in while Poppy didn't move an inch until Derek let her jump in the car

...

They had picked up Grace on the way home and planned on a full afternoon of relaxing. Meredith had slept the whole time since they were home while Grace was wrapped in her arms and Poppy lay on the ground next to her

Derek had made some tacos, he knew Meredith loved eating with her hands as it was much easier than holding a fork and knife after a long day
