Beyoncé

Did I text her too late? I sit to myself as I'm finishing the last of the dishes from dinner.

My father comes up behind me with his walker.

"Good night, sweetheart. Have a good rest."

"Night, papa. Good night."

______________

I sit at the table twiddling my thumbs. I came a bit too early so I'm not bothered by Nicki not being here yet.

I'm anxious, I have real feelings for her. I don't want to mess this date up at all. I can't wait to see her and talk to her.

"Hey, Bey!" I look up and see Nicki. "I came earlier out of caution!"

She gives me a hug and gives me some flowers. I give her a hug and give her the bouquet of flowers I bought for her. She brought me red roses and I brought her some pink tulips.

"Thank you."

"Thank you."

Nicki's smile is wide as hell and I'm happy to see it today. It seriously brings ripples of happiness through every cell of my body.

"How you been?"

"Good." I'm blushing like an idiot and looking away from her.

"Beyoncé..."

We're in a booth towards the back so she almost jumps over the table and puts her finger under my chin, feeling my bottom lip with her thumb.

"Nick—-"

"Not you blushin' on me. I already seen every inch a you. Ain't nothin' to be nervous about."

"Nick... you see yourself right now? Shiii."

She smirks pridefully.

"Have you seen yourself?" She responds. "While we're here can I sneak a kiss?"

I nod and she gives me a quick gentle peck on the lips. I want so bad to go in for more, but I don't know if that's me being too good for my britches.

"So an audition huh?"

I bounce my knee a bit, "Yup." I pop the 'p'.

"You gonna do good I seen how good you dance, they dumb if they don't choose you."

I look down out of habit.

"Bey—-"

I bite my lip. I love her dominant side.

"You gonna do good I believe in you."

The waitress comes over and we make our orders of coffee and sandwiches. The whole time Nicki gives me this... look.

"Stop doubting yourself, Bey!" Nicki tells me off a bit.

"Okay."

Nicki gives a little bit of a giggle which only makes me giggle.

"Whatchu plannin' on doing after the audition?"

"Hmm..." I shrug.

I really don't know. If I don't get it, come home and
cry in embarrassment, if I do, cry in excitement.

"Either result, I'll bring some cake."Nicki asks. "What's your favorite flavor?"

"Tiramisu."

"Okay." She says. "Sweets make everything better."

"Absolutely." I smile.

I take sips of my coffee.

"Bey, if you need to vent, vent. It's okay."

"But it's a date."

"Dates are to spend time and to strengthen your bond. You go first and I'll hear you out."

"Forreal?"

"C'mere."

I scoot over next to her and lean heavy on her side.

"You're gonna do amazing."

"I'm afraid I'm taking a shot in the dark. What if I fail and have no choice to go back to teaching?"

"You won't see another classroom." She says.

It's a true fear I have. What if I lost my chance because I didn't audition and actually pursue dancing when I was 16 and had my schedule PACKED? What if there aren't good opportunities for me because I let them slip away.

"Can I kiss yo—-"

I smash our lips together before she can finish.

"Nicki..."

Nicki offers me the most hope of all.

"I'll drive you to your audition if you want." She offers.

I nod. That would make me calm.
