Maki's POV

Shuichi was lying unconscious on the floor. Limp and unrespondent. I immediately rushed towards him.

"SHUICHI"

While I desperately tried to shake Shuichi up, Kiibo, being the usual idiot he was, tried to step on the frozen part of the lake. Unsurprisingly, he slipped and fell headfirst onto the ice with a large bang sound. Surprisingly, the ice didn't crack.

I looked up from Shuichi, whom I had moved to my arms and was cradling his head gently. I glared at Kiibo angrily.

Kiibo dusted himself off, cleared his throat, then said: "... It's very cold."

As stupid as he sounded, the robot was not wrong. It was so cold that I had started shivering. My breath was becoming more and more visible as the seconds passed. The ice surrounding Shuichi was slowly, but surely, spreading. It now covered the entire lake.

Kiibo hit the ice as hard as he could, then vibrate strongly from the backlash.

"It's not just the surface, the whole lake is frozen. Top to bottom."

"We need to get out of here," I said. "We also need to warm Shuichi up, he's freezing... Literally..."

Kiibo nodded and we turned around to leave. But then we saw Himiko at the door with her jaw hanging open.

"What's... happening?" Himiko then noticed Shuichi in my arms. "Is Shuichi ok?"

Kiibo just shrugged.

"Himiko, can you go find pillows and bring them to the library? There's a fireplace there that we can use to warm Shuichi up." I told her. Himiko nodded and then quickly ran off.

3rd Person POV

The remaining two rushed down the hall. They weaved left and right through the many corridors and hallways, their speed equivalent to that of rushing water. Maki quickly noticed that Shuichi was incredibly light. As her anxieties skyrocketed, the girl wondered how long had Shuichi not eaten. Had he been lying to her? If so, for how long?

As they finally made it to the library, Himiko had just finished dragging a small mattress next to the hearth. As Maki laid the unconscious intellectual down onto the mattress, Kiibo lit up the fireplace, dumping a bunch of wood until the flickering fire evolved into a roaring blaze.

There was no more ice forming anymore, but Shuichi still didn't look any better. In fact, you could almost see the discomfort in his fact if you looked hard enough.

"Kiibo what's his temperature?" Maki asked. Kiibo didn't answer. "Kiibo?"

Kiibo reached out for Shuichi's hand, then started to pull on it. Before Maki could protest, Shuichi's skin came off. Turns out, it wasn't skin at all, but a skin-coloured glove. Kiibo then removed the glove from the other hand, exposing Shuichi's horrifying skin.

"What the hell..."

The skin on Shuichi's hands was frosted, the snow covering it was already turning his fingertips a little bit red. Thankfully, it wasn't that bad, just mild frostbite.

Himiko kept staring at Shuichi with worried eyes. Shuichi had helped her and calmed her down after Tenko and Angie's deaths and the young magician couldn't thank him enough for it, but now, when he was in trouble, she had no idea how to help him.

Kiibo stared at him too, the circles in his eyes turning and making "ZZT ZZT" noises as if he was calculating or analyzing something. His eyes not leaving Shuichi, he knelt down beside him and, much to the surprise of the others, started taking off Shuichi's shirt. Once Shuichi's long-sleeved pinstriped uniform and the white dress shirt underneath it was opened, everyone gasped.
