Chapter Twenty One - Leave

This is the only chapter that will be in the perspecive of Issy. Enjoy!

My head hurt. Badly. It throbbed badly. I tried to move my hand up to feel it, but I couldn't. I was too tired. I could barely register the pained sobbing beside me. I couldn't recognise it, and panic overtook my immobile body as I realised I had no idea how I had gotten back to the Glade. All I remembered was a Griever chasing me and Thomas, then me jumping to push him out of the way and falling on the ground, then the Griever kicking me savagely so I slid over to the wall. After that, a stab of pain and black.

I couldn't stand it. I needed to know who was crying like that. It was rugged sobs, the ones of sleepless nights and no self care. I pried my eyes open with sheer will and curiosity. The person sitting there was Asian. I knew who it was yet I was still confused. Why would Minho be so upset? Most of the time he acted as if I didn't exist. "Minho?" I was shocked at how my voice croaked. I hardly recognised it.

Minho's head snapped up immediately, and his eyes has deep bags under them. He hadn't been sleeping. Judging by how thin he was, he hadn't been eating either. "Minho, why are you crying?" I said hoarsly. He didn't reply, only launched himself forwards and enveloped me in a hug. "Oh God, Issy," he hugged me harder. I could feel his ribs, he was so thin. "Why do you think?" I realised then. It hit me hard. I turned my head and gently kissed him on the mouth. When we broke apart he hugged me again, shifting me into his lap.

After a minute I asked him how long I had been asleep. "Three days," he said hesitantly. I stiffened instantly, and he noticed, stroking my spine until I relaxed. "What have I missed?" I was curious. "A lot." I waited for him to go on. "Newt and Amy are officially together, and... we might have found a way out." Bad timing.  I had just taken a big sip of water out of the cup sitting on the bedside table and I was so shocked I spat it all over Minho. I opened my mouth to apologise, but ended up laughing. A second later Minho was cracking up too. It had been a long time since I had laughed as hard and as long as I did then with Minho.

"So, where is it?" I had my head on his shoulder. "In the Maze." Came the blatant reply. "Well, duh. Where in the Maze?"

"In the walls of it."

"Where in the walls of it?"

"Someplace, somewhere."

"Minhooooo," I made a pathetic whimpering noise and he relented. "It's really far out. Very dangerous. A new, undiscovered section opened up. We didn't even know it existed. Section 9." I gaped in awe. "When are we going?" I said, excited. "It should open up again tomorrow, then three more days after that. It opens up at the same time as one of the others. But," he said quickly. "We aren't all going tomorrow, we are going the next time." I started protesting, but Minho cut me off. "We don't know how safe it is, or if it really will lead out. We need to be careful." I thought for a moment, then nodded in agreement. "Sure, fine." Minho smiled caringly at me. "Better start helping the Gladers pack then." When I started to get up, he picked me up bridal style and placed me gently on the bed. "I meant me." I scowled at him. "Fine. Can you send Amy in?" Minho nodded and started to leave, but I grabbed him by the arm.

"Don't leave, " I whispered. "Five minutes." I patted the bed beside me. "I'm tired, and you look the same." Minho looked as if he were going to deny, but then laid down behind me and hugged me. "Okay, fine." He pulled me close and kissed my forehead, then my lips. "Go to sleep." I wanted to tell him he had to as well, but I was too tired, so I let myself drift off to sleep in Minho's arms.
