You turn on your heel, the dogs are fighting against you now. Their panic is escalating. They're being loud. So loud. Barking, whining growling. Their hair is standing on edge. You've never seen them behave this way - neither has your roommate.

It's enough to convince them. As they're rising, grabbing the bags with the food from the table glass shatters, the curtains move as bodies are crawling through the glass.

"Run." They demand, throwing the bag at the closest form, still tangled in the fabric, bringing the curtain rod falling down. "RUN!"

You obey, not needing further instruction. The dogs drag you with them, not giving you a chance to look back as you dodge the odds and ends stacked along the hallway wall. You pray that your partner is behind you. You feel like they're behind you.

Of course, that could also be... a chill runs up your spine as you run a bit faster. The garage doorknob is in your hand, you throw it open, ignoring the violence with which it bounces off the wall.

"Get in the fucking car!" They scream, slamming the door behind you, locking it as something slams against it.

You open the back door as the dogs leap in, throwing yourself in after them, not bothering to move to the passenger seat as your roommate launches themselves into the drivers seat, starting the engine. The worst part is waiting for the garage door to lift. To your horror a body slips under the space as the gap gets bigger. They locks the car doors but you can't get far enough away from the windows to feel safe as the bodies begin streaming in. They're throwing themselves against the metal and plastic and glass.

The door leading into the house has splintered in the middle, the door knob is loose and ready to fall to the ground. The window to your left makes an awful creak as a body presses against it so hard that the skin on its hands are beginning to split, blood pooling and smearing on the window nightmarishly.

"HOLD ON!" They yell, backing out as quickly as they can for the bodies holding on and blocking your path.

Soon you're on the road, the last few clingers eventually falling away as you eat the miles, the town streets blissfully clear.

You've made it to the highway...
