The light flips to green and you race off, ignoring the speed limit. You forget about the guy in the car behind you. Your mind is racing and your hands are shaking as you pull up to work. You take a picture of the damage and set a reminder to get in touch with your insurance company as you're walking in to work and let your boss know what happened. After making a brief call to report the crime to the police - whose line is busy no matter how many minutes you wait or times you call. Frustrated you settle in at your desk, obviously shaken.

Concerned your coworkers seem to hover, which doesn't help the anxiety you feel welling in your chest at the gravity of what happened and the implications of your actions weigh on you. As the day wears on towards lunch one of your coworkers shouts your name.

"You gotta come see this!" The shock on their voice is palpable and you make your way over on steadier legs than this morning. Shocked you see them pull up the video of your vehicle and your attacker.

Thirty seconds into the video (you didn't realize it had been so long) someone else shouts and the office gathers. News reports of random violence and petty crimes are on the rise, and not just locally. You boss walks out and calms everyone, reassuring them you will be fine.

You finish up the work day, shaken and disturbed as the news reports roll in.
