It doesn't matter, you figure, where you go at this point. You murdered someone.
You're dead. So dead.
You're going to prison for forever.
The rumble of your car as you slowly pick your way past abandoned vehicles, belongings and fallen bodies is at least somewhat comforting.
Your hands still feel a bit hollow from firing that gun. But maybe it's because you used it to kill someone.
The thought makes you blink, and in that moment you can see, from behind closed lids, a bright flash followed by a rumble that shakes the ground you're driving on.
"The fuck was that?" You look ahead and see nothing in the quickly approaching night.
Your rearview just shows darkness. You nod at the car creeping by a little faster as it passes you.
They look worse for wear. There's blood splattering the side of their vehicle. You look closer as they pull away.
That might've been a finger sticking out of the rear window.
Darkness soon envelopes you as you finally reach the merge lane for the highway...
