First Aid

Your eyes don't leave the officers body. There's absolute chaos around you, but you can't bring yourself to look away.

Slowly you're aware of the radio static. Aware of the screams and cars and people and fire around you.

But your intentions are set. You're going to help that cop.

You exit your vehicle. You climb over the center divider. You narrowly avoid a speeding vehicle with, what looks like, a rabid driver behind the wheel.

And you're there. His legs are broken, bending at unnatural angles. As far as you can tell, he's unconcious. You try to push the car pinning him out of the way, but it won't budge. You know you can't move him.

You look back to the fray, where a woman is getting her arm chewed off by her own child. You shudder, instead reaching over the officer for his gun.

You inhale, point the weapon, pull the trigger... and nothing happens. You inspect the gun, try again. And again no results. You hear the wils and moans and growls nearing.

You won't leave the man to be eaten alive. Frantic you search the gun, finding a button with a lock and unlock image. You switch it to unlock, aim, and fire.

This time a bullet explodes from the gun, diving deep into the officers abdomen.

You hear his scream, the pain rousing him.

"I'm sorry." You breathe, hyperventilating. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry." You fire again, even though your wrists are singing. This next bullet makes your fingers numb. "I'm sorry." You whisper, watching blood ooze from the new wound at his shoulder.

You inhale, squeeze the trigger. See the bullet blow off half his face.

"Im sorry." Tears are free falling down your face.

You drop the gun, standing frozen before a shrill scream to your left snaps you out of it. You become aware, again, of where you are. What tote in the middle of.

You race back to your car, noticing the fine blood splatters all over your hands. You inhale, hands on the steering wheel.
