Far From Home: Chapter 14

"They still won't evacuate the city," Agent Hill said as she snapped me out of my daydream. "Idiots," Fury said under his breath.

"So, what's the plan, Parker?" Fury asked.

"I will be in the cathedral tower, keeping watch for the fire monster. When it shows up I will radio you guys and Mr. Beck and I will-" Beck cut off Peter, "my name is Mysterio," Beck said and a smile formed on Peter's lips. "That's when Mysterio, Santana, and I will move in," Peter said.

"Peter, listen to me, the best hope you have, the only hope, is to stop it here now, no matter what the cost. Maneuver it away from civilians if you can, but most importantly, keep it away from metal. If it gets too big, it'll draw power from the Earth's core. After that, there's no way to stop it," Beck said.

"My friends are here. I can't help but think we're putting them in danger," Peter said.

"You're worried about us hurting your friends? You, who called a drone strike on your school tour bus?" Fury said and I was confused about when this happened. "Stark gave you a multi-billion-dollar A.R tactical intelligence system, and the first thing you do with it is to try and blow up your friends," Fury said, a quiet beeping sound came off of my bracelet and I turned away from the conversation to look at what it was saying. During my talk with Adora earlier I had slipped a tracking device into her sleeve that would transport itself into whatever piece of clothing it can without being detected.

While everyone was distracted I told Hill that I was heading back to the hotel since I already knew my part of the plan and everyone else's and I didn't need to hear everyone talking to each other if it wasn't about the actual mission. I left the base and I checked the bracelet and it said that Adora was moving, I didn't want to do anything quite yet until I know for a fact that she is doing something she isn't supposed to. I got to the hotel and I b-lined to my room while there were a few classmates in the lobby talking.

I opened my door and closed it to see MJ sitting on her bed reading. "Apparently, we're seeing Opera instead of the festival, I wonder why that is?" she asked sarcastically, I hyper-focused on my bracelet. "Because of a giant fire monster thing attacking Prague tonight," I said.

"Ah, that's right," she said before she noticed where my focus was, "what are you looking at?" She asked out of curiosity. "I may have put a tracker on Adora," I said and this must have been enough for her to stand up and look at what I was looking at. "Where is she?" MJ asked and I shrugged. "That's what I'm trying to figure out. I'm going to talk to Peter, I'll be back in a few," I said as I walked out of the room and towards Peters.

I arrived at his room and I knocked, the door opened to reveal Peter. "Can I talk to you for a moment?" I asked and he opened the door wider for me to come in. "Sure, is everything ok?" He asked.

"I don't know yet," I said and Peter looked confused. "It's Adora, she has been acting weird and she keeps saying weird things like she knows who I am," I said, Peter, looked skeptical. "Are you sure that's what she meant?" He asked.

"Yes," I said, he still looked skeptical, my phone buzzed and I looked at it and it was a text from MJ telling me to hurry up. "Do you think I'm right about this?" I asked and he shrugged. "I don't know, she hasn't been weird around me," he said and that had me thinking for a moment, the thought that popped into my head made sense. She knows who we are but she wants one of us to know who she is and the other to not know, it's smart. "I have to go," I said as I left the room with the idea that he didn't believe my claim.

I arrived at my room and I walked straight towards my suitcase to find the dress I packed for the 'possible formal event' that we were going to have. "How'd it go?" MJ asked and I pulled out a long dark blue dress. "I don't think he believed me," I said and MJ looked confused. "Why wouldn't he?" She asked.

"Because Adora has been playing both of us. She's been nice towards Peter and weird towards me. I think she wants me to know what she's doing," I said.

"Why would she do that? That seems like a lot of work to do for one girl," MJ said and I nodded. "I haven't figured that part out yet," I said.

MJ and I got ready for the Opera and we all started to walk to the theatre.

Once we arrived the Theatre was completely empty, Brad walked past me. "I'll save you a seat," he said and he just walked down the aisle before I could even answer. MJ walked up next to me. "Brad seems to be taking an interest in you," she said.

"I've noticed," I said not exactly happy about it. "Good luck," MJ said as she placed a hand on my shoulder and walked past me. Peter walked up next to me right as I hesitated to go in and sit down. "You look pretty," Peter said and I looked at him and smiled at him. "Thanks," I said.

The Opera looked as if it was about to start. "Uh, you ready to go?" Peter asked as adjusted his tie. "Yeah," I said as I walked out of the theatre as the lights dimmed. We got out of the theatre and I headed towards the rooftop I was assigned. Once I got up there I pressed the button on my watch and my dress was replaced with a suit, there was something in my pocket so I pulled it out and it was a mask, I placed it on the lower half of my face. My bag of weapons was already on the rooftop so I placed the bow onto my back along with the quiver that is now full of arrows.

While I was waiting for the monster to show I realized that I didn't have the necklace Amelia gave me, I always put it on, 'how did I forget to put it on?' I thought to myself. I pulled my thoughts together and continued to look for any signs that this monster thing is here. "Do you see anything yet?" Peter asked over the earpiece. "Nothing yet," I answered.

I saw smoke rising from a statue. "I think I see something," I said into the earpiece. Then, the ground beneath the statue broke apart revealing lava. "That's definitely it," I said, and right then the lava took over the statue causing the lava and stone to shoot everywhere. The monster finally formed, I looked around the ground level and it seemed that civilians had cleared the ground but there were still people on the Ferris wheel. One compartment on the Ferris wheel held familiar people and I groaned, I decided to deal with it myself since Beck and Peter would be busy fighting the monster.

I grabbed one of my arrows and I pulled the string back and shot it at the compartment Ned and Betty were inside of, my bow was between the string that the arrow had attached and I slide down the string and into the compartment. I put on a strong Czech accent when I spoke to them so they wouldn't recognize my voice, I gave them instructions on how to get onto the string and once they were on the roof I got onto the string.

I lead them to the ladder I used to climb up and they climbed down the ladder and ran. "Santana, what happened?" Peter asked over the earpiece. "Don't worry about it, stay focused," I said as I noticed the monster getting bigger. I ran my fingers over arrows trying to think of which one would work best for a monster like this, I had made a test arrow of a new trick arrow, it had water in the arrowhead. So I decided to use it, I placed the arrow into place and I pulled the string back and aimed for the middle of the monster. I released the arrow and right as it hit the monster water exploded from the arrow and the monster hissed.

I heard a loud metal clang for a moment but I ignored it as the monster turned towards me, I didn't think that part through very well. I cut the rope that was attached to the roof and I grabbed onto it. I safely made it to the floor, redirecting the monster back towards Beck and Peter. There was a big flash of green and the monster was gone, Fury and Hill drove up to the scene, after talking to Mysterio he walked up to us. "I'd love to have you two in Berlin too," Fury said and he looked between the two of us. "But you got to decide whether you're going to step up or not," he said, directed to both of us.

I got back to the hotel before Peter did and I got a buzz on my bracelet as I climbed into my hotel room window. When MJ noticed she jumped. "There's a door you could use, Santana," she stated pointing to the door. "I know, but I'm still in my suit and I'm carrying a bag full of weapons," I stated as I climbed the rest of the way in the room. I walked towards my bed and placed the bag on it. I took out my bow and quiver and I put them on my back. I checked the bracelet and Adora was in an abandoned warehouse.

"Where are you going?" MJ asked as I placed a piece of tech into my wrist and it wrapped itself around my wrist. "I'm going after Adora, can-" MJ cut me off before I could finish. "Yes, I'll cover for you," MJ said and I thanked her before leaving through the window.
