the odd behavior.

___

THE WEEK HAD FLOWN BY faster than Paxton could keep up and now, as she gets ready for a party tonight, she wonders if the days had actually happened.

She didn't talk to Stiles much after that practice, unless it had to do with their chemistry class. And when they did talk, he always seemed distant. Like his mind had been somewhere else.

The person she's talked to the most was the one who invited her to this party tonight, Allison Argent. The two had grown closer, though Paxton keeps her distance. Allison was excited to invite her to the party that Lydia Martin is throwing. She didn't want to go alone.

Paxton didn't have the heart to explain to her that she would rather be at home. At least she told Charlie that when he had asked her the day prior. Charlie didn't push her on it, knowing she just needs time.

But, Allison didn't know a thing about her and she loved that. It meant that she could talk with Allison as if her thoughts weren't constantly on her father, that she could be like her old self in a way.

It's only a matter of time before Paxton realizes how lonely it is for her.

Paxton and Allison stand outside Lydia's house. Lydia always knew how to throw the best parties, it's what she was known for. Her oversized house was perfect for them. Paxton had shared plenty of memories here, most of which make her cringe. The drunken nights were a distant thought now.

They walk inside, pushing through the crowded space until they reach a sliding glass door that leads outside to the patio. They look around at the overwhelming amount of people.

"Hey, I think Scott's over there, do you mind if I.." Allison hints at wanting to go talk to him.

Allison and her had caught up on the ride there. She told her how she really likes Scott. Paxton supported it, telling her she should go for it, that Scott had always been a good guy. Though, it brought her discomfort since she always viewed Scott as a brother figure. Allison wondered how the girl knew her crush so well but never questioned it. Figuring it's probably due to them being in the same schools for most of their lives.

Paxton nods, "yeah, of course, I'll be over," she scans the area, looking for a place to hide, "here," she turns hesitantly to the area behind her.

A table with a punch bowl is set up, millions of red cups surrounding it. She cringes at the sight. A burning in her stomach mimics alcohol.

Allison has a small smile on her face before spinning around to Scotts direction. Paxton's worse nightmare was coming to her, having to socialize.

She's seen everyone at school or at other parties before but still, her stomach swirls at the thought of sinking back to her old ways. When she would drink too much and come home too late.

She hovers over the table of drinks, weighing her options. On one hand, she could handle her alcohol but on the other, she knew she could push the bad habit too far.

Charlie had spotted her from across the pool, a few feet away from her. Anger boiled to the surface quickly, knowing how she always made a mess of herself at parties like this. He had to be the one to help her home, lie to their dad, put her to bed. He didn't want to do it anymore. She had no idea how much he had taken care of her.

"What're you doing?" he asks, pulling her away from the table by her arm.

She slips away from his grip, "I'm not doing anything," she says, innocently looking around the table behind them.
