"I THOUGHT WE WERE GOING SHOPPING?"

Paxton had been stomping behind Allison, trailing through the Beacon Hills Preserve for roughly fifteen minutes before the question came to her mind.

Allison turns around with a bright smile, pushing her large bag up her shoulder before it could fall. "We are," she starts hesitantly, "I just have to run an errand first."

"In the middle of the woods?"

She stops in her tracks, letting Paxton catch up beside her. "If I tell you something, do you promise not to say anything?" she whispers, despite being in the middle of the woods with no one around.

Paxton looks to the trees and their branches above her. Her eyes squinting, deep with thought. "I won't say anything," she exhales, deciding she could keep a secret from Stiles.

"Okay," Allison starts, a wrinkling already stressing her forehead, "this is going to sound crazy but, I think my parent's are hunters. And not just, like, deer or duck."

Paxton blinks, her mouth parting as she inhales deeply. "What?" she asks with an unconvincing tone, her voice hitting a higher pitch. "That's crazy," she shakes her head.

"I know! But, I don't know what they hunt, it's driving me insane. I guess that's what they've been doing every time they disappear at night."

"How'd you find this out?" she asks nonchalantly, as if it wasn't the most important question besides the obvious 'how much do you really know' question.

Allison's lips form a tight, awkward smile, "Kate. Well, really, it started when I looked into our families history. Did you know, the Argents' are from a long lineage of hunters?"

"Nope, no idea," she squeaks out.

"Yeah, except they didn't hunt regular animals, they hunted werewolves," she laughs. Paxton chuckles along, unsure if it were a laughing matter. "A family fairy tale," she adds, her eyes shoot to the ground, wondering if it were really a fairy tale.

"So, how exactly did Kate tell you?"

"Oh, right. She was the one that told me about a book that talked about our family's history. She didn't exactly tell me, just gave subtle hints. But, yesterday I was jogging through the woods, actually, not too far from here. I ended up at the Hale House. I know, I know, it was stupid of me. I went inside because I was curious and Kate showed up, rambling about the fire. She had followed me there because she's been waiting to tell me more about our family without my dad around. She told me she has so much more to tell me but the time isn't right, whatever that means."

Paxton's heart rate picks up, knowing that it's only a matter of time before Allison finds more out. She already knows about werewolves, though, she doesn't believe it. Paxton wonders how she'll react if Kate tells her about Scott.

"Anyways," Allison adds with a sigh, getting back to the point, "last night, after the game, they had disappeared again. As soon as I heard my dad pull in outside, I went to our garage and hid in my mom's car. They always use the garage when they come in. And, They were arguing about me! Kate asked when he would tell me 'the truth' and dad kept saying I'm too young but Kate said it was a perfect time. That's when she saw me, she smiled while my dad wasn't looking and when he turned to the door, she left an arrowhead on the table. She wanted me to find it, she knows I'm curious. So, I took it."
