nothing says family like burying a body together.DEATH COATED EVERY SENSE, scraping its scythe and slicing the air with a sharp ring. Its stout smell mixes with both the horror and relief of Kali's death, intertwining in a stifling embrace.
Moving a muscle felt impossible to those who witnessed the crime. Their souls frozen and taken captive by death itself. Its icy grip woven around them, choking them and sending a collective shudder down their spines as they gasp for air in the thick cloud of shock.
Kali's body floats to the surface of the rippling water without a breath bubbling up—confirming their suspicions and relief.
She's dead. Kali is dead.
An alpha amongst alpha's, with more power than most would ever possess, and she'd died in Derek Hale's apartment at the hands of a child bearing nothing but a kitchen knife and uncontrollable rage.
The least suspecting person served her death whilst wilting the last bit of innocence he had left.
Charlie's blank stare on her body is unmoved. His eyes wide, as if terrified, but lack any sign of remorse. A mean wrinkle between his furrowed brows. His muscles refuse the slightest of twitch. To move would mean to breathe and fill his lungs with life again. But, he couldn't return to life, not yet, not before waking up from this nightmare.
Of course, life will always demand a return to reality, even at one's worst.
Slowly, the shock washes away with each wave of water brushing against their bodies until they're eventually able to come to terms with reality.
Emily is the first whose disbelief fades, most prepared to face the horror of repercussions.
Unlike the others, she refuses to consider what choices brought them to this murder. Not only would it scare her into a corner where she'd mourn the loss of her children's innocence, but she also just hates to revisit the past. She's learned over the years that it does no good.
As she rose from the floor, water flowing from her like a cape, she released the breath she kept confined to her throat. Standing tall above the others, she examines their broken pieces and how deep their cuts bleed.
Everyone seems frozen in time.
Boyd and Isaac, keeping their distance, couldn't budge as they watch the blood swirl around the water.
Cora held onto Derek, his knees cemented to the floor drags her down with him. Blood coats his hands, and it takes him a while to realize it's not his own, nor is it Paxton's. Cora couldn't break him from his trance and despite the hint of relief across his face, all he could think about is how it should've been him that died. It would be far less complicated.
Once word spreads to Deucalion, revenge would be the only thing on his mind. He'll find Derek first, finishing what's been started by killing him without any hesitation. The idea of Derek joining his pack would no longer be a humored idea, and the ultimatum that ties everyone together will no longer matter.
And after Deucalion kills Derek, he'll move onto the next target, completely unbothered. Murder will become a competitive sport, and soon, it'll be as if everyone gathered around Kali's limp body never existed.
He had approached Charlie with a test of loyalty, to which he failed in the worst way possible. If a quick death is Deucalion's gift to Derek then he's the lucky one.
