We brought my stuff up to Jill's room and then sat and talked a little bit about school, our friends, who liked who.
Erin called us down for pizza and I brought my insulin down to put in their fridge. I looked at the pizza and calculated the carbs and bolused on my pump. Jill and Erin watched.
"It amazes me how quickly you do that," Erin said.
"It's always come easily to me," I shrugged.
"There's a reason she's got top marks in Math class," Jill said.
I blushed. I did have the top marks, and I worked pretty hard for them. But it embarrassed me when people pointed it out.
We ate pizza and talked with Erin. Jake came in and had a piece. He was pretty cool for a younger brother. I didn't think he was a pain, but Jill was always complaining and calling him a brat. I liked him. And he seemed to like me too.
Once we were done lunch, Jill and I put on our jackets and went for a walk up toward the school. Morgan and Blaine were going to meet us there and we were going to hang out for a while. It wasn't too cold out, so being outside was fine. I had a hat and mitts on anyway.
We hung out for a while, and got a bit chilly, so we walked to a cafe a couple of blocks from the school and had hot chocolates. I checked my sugar and bolused for the drink.
The four of us had fun and just chatted a joked around.
"We should get back to mine," Jill said. "My parents are going to want to have dinner soon."
"Okay, see you guys," Blaine said.
"Bye," Morgan said.
We cleaned up our cups and wrappers - Blaine had a muffin and Jill and Morgan shared a cupcake. I didn't eat anything. I wasn't hungry and I didn't feel like bolusing again. Not because I was afraid of using too much insulin. Mom and Dad made sure I used the right amount, and since Stanley died, it was so much easier. I just wasn't in the mood for anything besides the hot chocolate. I don't really eat a lot as it is. I did try a bite of Jill's cupcake. It was vanilla. And really sweet.
We walked back to Jill's house and stowed our winter gear away while Erin and Jill's dad got dinner ready.
"Can I help at all?" I asked.
"You're too sweet," Erin said. "Do you want to help Jill set the table?"
Jill rolled her eyes. I liked helping out.
Jill passed me plates and I took them over to the table. We set up, brought out burger toppings, ketchup, mustard, that sort of stuff.
Erin put the chips I brought in a bowl and put those on the table too.
We all sat down and ate dinner. It was nice. I kind of had an idea what it would be like when Rosie was old enough to talk.
After dinner I helped Erin clean up. Jill and I cleared the table and I threw out the napkins and other garbage.
Jill and I then ran up to her room, grabbed Ghostbusters and went down to their TV room to watch.
"I can't believe you haven't seen this!" I said.
"Says you!" Jill laughed. "When did you first see it?"
"Last night," I said, sheepishly. Jill laughed.
"But it's awesome! You're going to love it. The graphics are soooooo bad. It's hilarious!"
We watched the movie and Jill agreed. It was really good but the graphics were so bad! We laughed at it.
After Ghostbusters, we watched the remake. Or the one with the girl Ghostbusters and debated which one was better. We determined it was the newer one.
We then decided to watch a horror movie so Jill picked 'The Bye Bye Man'. It scared the hell out of us.
"Girls!" Erin called down. "It's late. Get to bed you two!"
We went up to Jill's room and got into pyjamas and brushed our teeth and everything and got into bed. Jill had a trundle bed which was, like, a bed in a drawer under her bed.
"I'm too scared to go to sleep," Jill said.
"Don't think it don't say it," I said, quoting the movie.
"Shut up!" Jill laughed.
"Girls!" Erin called in to us. "Sleep!"
We laughed and talked quietly to each other. But we were still too scared to fall asleep.
I have no idea what time it was when we finally did fall asleep, or who fell asleep first.
Erin woke us up in the morning for breakfast and I am pretty sure we only had a few hours of sleep. Jill was groaning.
"You girls were up late," Jill's dad said.
"We watched a scary movie and couldn't sleep," Jill said, taking a waffle from the plate in front of us.
"Sam, did you sleep okay?" Erin asked me. "I mean, once you two finally fell asleep?"
I nodded. I felt funny. Tired. Obviously.
"Sam?" Erin said to me. "Are you okay?"
I tried to answer her, but I couldn't get my mouth to work.
I could see Erin's mouth moving, but I couldn't hear her anymore.
Then, the world went grey. Then black.
