Samantha POV

When I opened my eyes, I wasn't in Jill's kitchen. Mom told me what happened. Now Jill knows sometimes I get seizures. It was the one thing I didn't want her to know. Because she'd probably not want to be my friend anymore. She knew about my diabetes obviously, but add seizures to the list and I'm just a mess.

Mom made me rest on the couch a little longer and I think she called Erin to let her know I was okay. I turned on the TV and flipped mindlessly through the channels.

Eventually Mom made me get up and eat something. My blood sugar was going low.

Rosie kept looking at me and saying my name. I smiled at her and she grinned her goofy toothless grin at me.

"Hang on!" I said. "Mom, Rosie has a tooth!"

"What?" Mom said, coming over to us.

She looked in Rosie's mouth, which she didn't like, and there was a tiny baby tooth on the bottom.

"Look at that! She does!" Mom said.

We sat around and Mom made sure I relaxed. I texted Jill and let her know I was okay and to apologize. She didn't respond. Maybe she was busy. Or asleep. We stayed up really late.

The rest of the day, we just hung around the house. Mom told me to go shower and put on clean clothes or pyjamas, so I did.

My homework was done, so I didn't have to worry about that. Mom was right about that.

We had dinner and I played with Rosie some before she went to bed and then watched some TV with Mom. She made me go to bed a bit earlier because I hadn't slept much the night before. And I was tired, so I didn't complain.

In the morning I had no problem getting up. Mom was already up with Rosie when I went downstairs, and I had breakfast before the three of us left the house.

We walked to school and I saw Jill wasn't waiting outside for me. I texted her to see if maybe she was at home, sick. She didn't answer so I figured maybe she was and was asleep. I didn't think much of it.

I said bye to Mom and Rosie and went to my locker. Blaine and Morgan were in my first class so I met up with them and we chatted about about the weekend.

The day went along as normal and I went to lunch with Blaine after our science class. I didn't have to go to the nurse anymore for my insulin, so that saved time.

Blaine and I found Morgan in the cafeteria and the three of us got our lunches and sat down. We were eating and chatting when Jill came over to us.

"Here," she said, tossing a DVD case on the table. "You left your stupid movie at my house."

"Thanks," I said.  "I thought you were sick. You didn't return my text."

"You guys might want to reconsider being friends with this one," she said to Blaine and Morgan, completely ignoring me. "She likes to keep secrets and lie to her so-called friends."

"What?" I said. But Jill turned around a stormed away.

"What was that about?" Morgan asked.

"I don't know," I said.

"What happened on the weekend?" Morgan asked.

"I slept over Saturday night. We stayed up late and had fun. Sunday morning..." oh. I thought to myself.

"What?" Blaine asked.

"I got a bit sick Sunday morning and went home," I said.

"That hardly seems like a lie or a secret," Blaine said. "Not a reason to act like that, anyway."

"Well, truthfully," I said, swallowing hard. "I had a seizure at her house."

"I didn't know you have epilepsy," Morgan said.

"I don't. Not really. But after my accident in September. Sometimes I have seizures. Usually if I'm really, really tired. And we didn't really sleep a lot Saturday night."

"So? Why is Jill so mad at you for having a seizure?" Blaine asked.

"I don't know," I said.

We finished lunch, but I'd lost my appetite. I went back to my locker to get my books for my afternoon classes and headed to English, which I had with Jill. She was already in the classroom when I got there.

"Jill?" I said, walking up to her. "Can I talk to you?"

She turned away as if she didn't hear me.

"Jill?"

She put headphones in and kept looking away. I sat in my seat, right beside her, feeling tears burning behind my eyes. I was determined not to cry, but Jill was so mad.

The teacher started the class and I raised my hand when my name was called for attendance. Mrs. Walker asked us to get into pairs and when I turned to Jill, she was already paired up with Thomas, the boy who sat in front of her. I looked beside me and asked Patricia if she wanted to be partners. She agreed but asked why Jill wasn't my partner.

"I dunno," I said.

We did our work together. Patricia is nice and pretty smart, but not as funny as Jill. Her and Thomas kept laughing and she'd give me this smug smile any time I looked over.

After English I had PE. Jill and I were in the same PE class, too. I changed into my kit and went out into the gym. We were playing dodgeball and the captains picked the teams. Jill and I were on the same team, but every time Jill got the ball, she threw it at me. At my head.

"Walton!" The teacher blew her whistle. "No head shots! Take a seat!"

Jill went and sat in the bleachers. The look on her face was pure hatred. She gave me the finger.

I didn't know why she was so mad, but it hurt so much. I ran off the court and into the locker room.

"Joseph!" The teacher called as I pushed open the door.
