Samantha POV

A couple weeks after the first day of school, and my first hospitalization in a while, Dad and Josh went back out on tour. They were supposed to be back before Christmas.

Mom's belly was getting bigger and some nights after dinner, if my homework was done and Mom and I were watching TV, I'd talk to the Little Peanut and remind him or her to be good to Mom. Mom would stroke my hair while we lay like that on the couch.

More often than not, I fell asleep there and Mom had to wake me up because she couldn't carry me.

We got into a pretty good routine while Dad and Uncle Josh were away. And Dad called almost every night. I missed him, but there were always videos and again, he called almost every night.

I also went to my first sleep over. I went to Jill's house for the first time and slept over. She couldn't believe I'd never had a sleepover before. I reminded her about my birth dad.

Her mom was so nice and we had so much fun. Her brother was a bit of a pain, but I guess that's what siblings are supposed to be like?

Her mom even went and got some sugar free stuff so I would have snacks and stuff at Jill's.

Mom kept texting me all night asking if I was keeping an eye on my sugars. I answered of course I was.

In the morning, Erin made us pancakes and then drove us to the mall to go see a movie.

It was so much fun. I finally was getting an idea of what life is supposed to be like. Going to a movie, just me and Jill and Mason was amazing. They thought it was totally normal, but it was a first for me.

After the movie, Erin drove me home and I said I'd see Jill at school on Monday.

I bounced into the house.

"Hey there, sweetie pie!" Mom said as I came in. "Did you have fun?"

"I did," I said, and related the weekend to her.

Sunday we spent just hanging around the house. Mom was tired and I had some homework to finish.

We watched a movie and ate popcorn. Dad called and we all talked.

As I was going to bed, Mon grabbed my hand and put it on her stomach.

"Feel that?" She asked, as her stomach bumped my hand.

"Yeah," I smiled.

"That's your baby brother or sister kicking up a storm in there," Mom smiled. I smiled back.

"Hey Little Peanut, I hope you're going to let Mom sleep tonight," I said to her stomach.

She laughed.

I was actually starting to get a little more excited about my new brother or sister. I was talking with Jill about it.

"Your baby brother or sister is so lucky," Jill said to me at lunch one day at school.

"Why?" I asked.

"Because they have you as their sister. And you've seen some stuff. You know how to be compassionate and you know how to take charge when you need to. You've seen bad people and you know how to be good people."

"Plus, my parents are pretty awesome," I smiled.

"Yeah. They are," Jill agreed.

The rest of the day went along as normal. Mom picked me up after school and we went home. I had homework so I went up to my room to do it.

"I'll bring you a snack, okay?" Mom said.

"No. That's okay. I'll come down in a little while. I don't have too much homework," I said. Mom said that was fine, and I went back to my homework.

When I was done, I went downstairs. I heard Mom on the phone so I decided to be quiet so I didn't interrupt her on the phone. She was in the living room and hadn't seen me come down. I went into the kitchen and made myself a sandwich and a glass of milk and bolused my insulin.

"I don't know what I'm going to do about her," I heard Mom say. "If the baby comes while Tyler is away, I have to do something about Samantha. I just don't know where to send her."

I stopped. They were sending me away when the baby came. Tears sprang to my eyes. Was Jenna getting rid of me because Tyler wasn't home?

"Oh. Hi Sam," I heard. "Sweetie, what's wrong?"

I looked up and Jenna was standing in front of me. I looked at her and, fighting back tears, ran out the front door and down the driveway.

"Sam!" I heard Jenna call. "Sam! Come back! What's the matter?"

Like she didn't know.

I kept running. I didn't know where to go, but I knew I couldn't be at home. Home. Some home. As usual, I was too stupid to see what was right in front of me. They're gonna have a kid and get rid of the dead weight. Me.

I found myself in a park I knew was close to the house. There was a little concrete tunnel in it, so I crawled in there, curled up by bringing my knees up to my chest and started crying.

My phone started ringing. It was Jenna. I ignored it.

It rang again and I saw it was Jill. I knew Jenna asked her to call, so I turned my phone off.

How could I have been so stupid?
