“You said you wanted the best friend so here I am” -Lucas

((____________))

The Imperial Palace of Obelia had gotten quite used to the Emperor being asleep. The servants knew when to come in to clean the room were the Emperor was in.

The doctors knew what time to come in and check on the Emperor's medical health.

And Lucas had gotten used to monitoring the Emperor. He often wondered why exactly he was doing this.

He barely liked the Emperor but was working hard to make him wake up. He didn't care a bit for Obelia so it obviously wasn't the feeling of being a patriotic citizen.

Maybe it was because Anthanasia was really worried because of the Emperor.

"Is their any signs of him waking up?"

"Not yet. But there is still hope"

Lucas answered like that, but truthfully with the current situation, there was a slim chance that the Emperor would ever wake up. But he didn't want to say that to Anthanasia because he didn't want her to be sad.

She sat by the side of the sleeping Emperor and gazed at his face.

"Lucas"

"Yes"

"Thank you. Thank you for doing all of this. But mostly for being a good friend"

Lucas was quiet for a few seconds but then opened his mouth to reply. "No problem"

"Athy!"

The Emperor's room door was abruptly opened. Jennette came running into the room after closing the door behind her.

"What is it?"

"I have something I need to tell you. Right now"

"Okay"

The two left the Emperor's room with Anthanasia behind. Just as Anthanasia was about to leave she turned around and said to Lucas. "Hope you can watch over him alone"

"Easy"

"If you keep up this good behavior, maybe I'll agree to call you my best friend" Anthanasia said jokingly.

With that, she closed the door, leaving Lucas alone with the Emperor and his thoughts.

He sat down then heaved a heavy sigh. Anthanasia's words from a few moments

"Thank you for doing all of this. But mostly for being a good friend"

Was he being too greedy if he wanted to be more than a 'good friend' to Anthanasia?

As time passed, he had come to realize his ever growing feelings for the blonde princess.

She was smart. Kind. Gentle. Caring. Funny.

He had known her for the past three years and everyday he discovered a new part of her and a new part of himself.

When she went to the topaz palace he was worried that she would never return. If she had died... he would go crazy.

Everyday he fell more and more in love with her.

Yesterday Lucas and Anthanasia had a serious discussion about getting rid of the black magic affecting Claude.

"Lucas, tell me the truth. If we can't get rid of the black magic... can the Emperor still wake up"

"If I tell you the truth, won't you cry?"

"I promise to be strong"

"There's a slim possibility that he can wake up with the black magic still residing within his heart. And if he does wake up with the black magic his death... will really be close"

Anthanasia listened silently then nodded. She didn't cry but remained emotionless.

"But I promise to do my best!" Abruptly Lucas felt like cheering Anthanasia up. He didn't want to see her sad.

Her emotionless face slowly changed and a bright smile formed on her face.

"I trust you very much, Lucas. These days you really are acting nice. What happened to all your ego?"

A small blush crept up Lucas' face but he turned around trying to look away from Anthanasia.

"I don't know what you mean by that"

Anthanasia laughed lightly.

What did he love the most about her? Well...it was her smile.

When she smiled he became captivated like he was under a powerful spell. But she rarely smiled as most times there was nothing to smile about.

Everyday one problem or the other came into her life. With each problem that appeared, his resolve to protect grew all the more.

'Anthanasia, though you may not know of my feelings I promise to stand by your side faithfully'

The wizards resolve could not be shaken. Anthanasia had taken an important place in his heart.
