Staring out the dirt speckled window of sam's Vauxhall cavalier, Eleven held back the tears constantly swelling up in her eyes. she watch out the window at the passing of other cars, she was having trouble concentrating on one thought, her mind was racing, occasionally getting stuck or a reoccurring thought, a thought that made her stomach turn. The thought of her. Max.
Why would someone who she loved so much do something so awful to her, she couldn't bare revisiting that moment in her mind. The moment max disappeared into the dark hallway leaving Eleven laying a the couch under a thin blanket shivering and cold tear running down her rosie cheeks.
She didn't sleep that night she laid watching the soft flickering glow of the street lamp outside the balcony doors. Eleven was very familiar to pain, she doesn't remember a time when she didn't feel pain, her whole life, weather it was the pain of her leg being ripped open by a giant monster or he pain of finally finding your mother only to find you were stolen form her as a infant and now she doesn't remember anything let alone her own daughter. But the indescribable pain she felt when Max abandoning her completely trumped it all. it felt like she couldn't breath, it felt like her chest was being squeezed and all the air had disappeared out of the earth. Her heart ached like it never had before.
"Alright kid, we will be in Hawkins in about 20 minutes, so i will drop you and spilt," sam said keeping his eyes fixed in the road,
"Ok, " El replied quietly,
she had her chin softly rested in the ledged by the car window, her head jolted up every time the car drove over a bump which would cause her to bite down on her tongue, but she didn't care her eyes were so heavy and her body felt so limp and numb she didn't have the energy to move.
those 20 minutes that followed where the longest of Elevens life, she watched as all the roads and the trees and the buildings started to become more and more familiar, she passed her school but didn't see anyone as it was class time, as the car drove through the streets she felt like a ghost, she hadn't been there in what felt like a life time. It was like a ghost town, no cars in the roads and not people walking along the paths,
"God, the little town is depressing, i see why max wanted to leave, " Sam joke, unaware of how much that hurt Eleven,
"huh, yeah," eleven sighed forcing a fake chuckle to hide the fact she was hurt.
Sam continued driving down murkwood, throught the dense rows of trees either die of the skinny bumpy road,
"Urr kid this road is a dead end, are you sure this is the right way to your house, "
"Yes, stop here please," eleven said, as the car came to an abrupt stop, making eleven jolt forward slightly.
She got out the car and pulled her duffle bag out from the seat next to her as she sat in the back of the car.
"Good bye Sam, thank you for driving me," she said with a solemn smile
"Um bye kid," He said confused, turning the car around and driving away not looking back to watch eleven, as she turned and began to Trek through the dense woodland towards her cabin.
She watched her footing as she carried on walking to be carful not to step on to any of hoppers traps, she stepped over the trip wire and gentle walked up the front steps and turned the door knob. The door was locked which el had expected as hop was out at work, so she used her telekinesis to unlock the six locked on the other side of the door before walking in and dropping her duffle on the floor and collapsing onto hop arm chair. he missed his smell, the smell of bourbon and his aftershave . she curled up on his chair and finally closed her heavy tired eyes.
