Chapter 21

"WHAT HAPPENED TO EL!" she yelled her heart starting to beat profoundly and her breath quickened

"shes ok, shes in hospital asking for you and you only max, i'll take you tonight but you need to go pack a bag ," sam said softly

"o-ok yeah, thanks dad," max said lunging forward and wrapping her arms tightly around her dad, she felt him hoist her up and squeezed her tight kissing the top of her and and placing her feet back to the ground,
"common kid let get you to hawkins," he sigh
max and sam arrived home, max felt like she was slipping in and out of consciousness but felt very alert and aware at the same time she couldn't of picked a worse time to be high. She walked through the bar watching as her dad began serving drinks, max dragged her heavy legs up the stairs, she walked through the front door of the apartment, and as she practically fell through the door she saw her aunty tina sitting on the couch in the living room

"hey maxine," tina said in her southern accent that max always loved ever since she was a little girl

"hey aunty tina," max spluttered back

"you alrighty my darlin' ," she questioned with a look of confusion and concerns splattered across her rosy red freckle face

"ye-eah i'm all good," max replied putting both thumbs up and giggling.

"your high out your mined ain't ya?" tina chuckled

"w-what no no!" max said sounding shocked but in reality she just sounded stupid

" yeah you are i know that my Casey loves the stuff and lemme guess debs to?"

max sigh in defeat knowing tina knew "yeah i am but," she whispers "d-don't tell dad,"

tina chuckled " now girly you knowing i ain't gonna tell your daddy nothin' but he don't care either way,"

max smiled and then left to go pack her bags. She pulled her duffel from under her bed and shoved everything in sight stupidly she didn't really think about what she was packing she kinda just hoped for the best putting handfuls if shirts and pants but only two pairs of socks.

once's she'd pack she grabbed her walkman and her stuffed bear and headed down stairs, she looked over to her dad and signaled her head to the door gesturing to him that she was ready to go, she nodded and followed behind her leaving the bar to be manned by some other employees,

max arrived at the car and hoped in the front passenger seat whilst sam put her duffle in the back and got himself in the drivers seat, he started the car and began driving down the dim lit streets of California.

max had her head pressed agains the window with her walkman playing music she watched the yellowing streetlight pass by in a blur as they drove down the highway.

Eventually she felt her self fall asleep very deeply and before she knew it she was passed out.

max awoke suddenly to a jolt and her head knocked quite violently against the window she opened her eyes slowly to see she was still on the highway and it's was still dark maybe even darker then before but when max checked the time on the car stereo 12 hours had passed.

"hey sleepy," sam smiled keeping his eyes fixed on the road

"hey dad," max said sleepily

"we are about half way there now kid, we'll be there late evening today," sam said

"alright," max said softly

"so kid i was wondering, um are you gonna stay in hawkins or gonna come home with me?" sam questioned

"truthfully," max stretched and yawned before continuing "i have no idea i wanna be with you in cali i fucking hate hawkins it's never done anything good for me and the only reason i stayed there was cause if school but i'm going to college at the end of summer and i could apply to a college closer to you dad," max said sounding slightly more confident
