I opened the front door, only to be met with Lillie. "Hey, Lillie. What's up?" I asked.

"Oh, uhm..." She started, seemingly flustered that I had answered the door so quickly. "The professor said..."Hey there, Lillie! Bring me that great new Trainer. Woo!" So I'm here to bring you to his Pokemon lab."

Lillie lead me down a slope, where a building stood not too far away. She leapt off a short ledge, but I was a little distracted by a patch of grass beside me. "I'll catch up in a sec," I said, stepping over to the grass. Just as I did, a small Shinx bounced over to me.

"Hey!!" He roared. "You! What are you doing on my territory?!"

"Yer  territory?" Odium growled. "Bet ya couldn't even defend this place from a Magikarp."

"Odium, don't be rude," I scolded, glaring down at her.

"Oh yeah?" The Shinx snarled, crouching back. "You wanna bet?"

Just as the Shinx looked as if he was going to pounce onto Odium, I threw a Pokeball at him. One shake, two shakes, and...Gotcha! I picked up the Pokeball of my new Pokemon.

"Odium, please don't aggravate the wild Pokemon," Tenebris said, glaring over at Odium, despite not having visible eyes. "We are trying to get them to join us, and you taunting them is not helping."

"Yeah, yeah," Odium sighed.

I pressed the button on Shinx's Pokeball, freeing him instantly. "Hey, Shinx, you're with us now," I said, smiling gently at him.

"What?" Shinx gasped.

"And I think your name's gonna be...Ruinare."

"Hold on, hold on," Ruinare said

"Hold on, hold on," Ruinare said. "What do you mean I'm with you? I don't even know you!!"

Odium sighed obnoxiously. "Dude, relax," she said. "'s not that big a deal. Yer just gonna become stronger with us."

"Odium is right," Tenebris said, stepping over to Ruinare. "Though, she could've been nicer about it..."

"Right," I said. "Ruinare, this is Tenebris." I gestured to Tenebris as I spoke. "And this is Odium. Welcome to the team."

Ruinare huffed and rolled his eyes. "Fine," he muttered. "I'll go with you, but only because I have nothing better to do."

"Okay, let's go," I said. "Lillie's probably still waiting for us."

...

"Woo! Let's go, Rockruff! Give it everything you got, my body is ready!"

Why was I immediately met with Kukui yelling when I got over to the lab?

"Ah, there they go again..." Lillie said, sighing heavily.

And why was Lillie used to this?

Lillie turned towards me before speaking again. "The Pokemon research lab has its own unique charm, as I think you might agree," she said.

Oh, it had a unique charm alright. Especially the boards that covered parts of it, like the windows and sign. It was as if someone who didn't know how to build was trying to repair a building. I heard a Rockruff howling and barking loudly within the lab.

"The professor..." Lillie shook her head. "He never stops researching moves. Not even...Inside the lab itself. Looks like we'll have to patch the roof again."

"Should we go in there?" I asked, which was answered by a nod from Lillie.

"Hey there, Elaine!" Kukui said as Lillie and I walked into the lab. "Thanks for getting her for me, Lillie!"

"So," I began, "what did you need me for?"

"Say, Elaine, lemme see your Pokedex for a second, yeah?" Kukui said. I handed my Pokedex to Kukui as he pulled out a box. "And now if I power up your Pokedex with the parts I just got in..." He said, tinkering with my Pokedex.

Suddenly, the Pokedex flew up on its own, or so I thought. A face that wasn't on the Pokedex before lit up, as the 'Dex landed back in my hands. "Uh, hey there! P-...Pleasure to meet you! I-..I'm not nervous or anything, okay?!" Rotom said.

"Nice to meet you, Rotom," I said. "My name is Elaine."

"Professor," Lillie started. "How exactly is this supposed to help..?"

"Elaine hasn't been here in Alola too long yet," Kukui responded. "So I decided to give her this special Rotom Dex to help her navigate around."

There was a map on my Pokedex that wasn't there before, just below the Dex's eyes.

"A-lo-la!" Hau said as he walked into the Pokemon Lab. "The salty breeze sang to me and brought me here to you!"

"Alright then, now that everyone's here, get a move on!" Kukui said.

"Huh?"

"To the Trainers' School! You've gotta learn the basics of being a Pokemon Trainer through Pokemon battling."

That's fair enough, I suppose. I've never really been a trainer before, I've only helped take care of my mother's Meowth.

The three people I was with previously all left the lab, so I quickly followed after them. But as soon as I stepped outside, it went dark. I could still see, but it was definitely a lot darker than it was before.

But just as quickly as it happened, the sky returned to normal. It must have been a lunar eclipse or something, though there wasn't one scheduled today...

"Come on, Elaine, I'll show you to the Pokemon Center," Lillie said, walking away.

"E-...Everything went black all of a sudden!" Rotom said. "I thought I might be out of batteries!"

"Are you okay now?" I asked, looking down to it.

"Yeah, I'm okay," it said. "I won't short-circuit that easily! A visit to the Pokemon Center might be nice though."

Well, as everyone kept telling me, I might as well go along to the Pokemon Center. But along the way, it may be a good idea to train Ruinare up, so he can be as strong as Tenebris and Odium are.

...

According to Lillie, a Pokemon Center was where you could heal your Pokemon, as well as buy things that would help them in battle. And that's pretty helpful, as Ruinare got damaged pretty badly during training, so I'll have to heal him.

"How are you feeling now?" I asked him.

Ruinare stretched as we walked out of the Pokemon Center. "Better," he said. "When did those guys get so strong?"

"Maybe yer just weak," Odium remarked.

"Not anymore!" Ruinare growled. "I'll get even stronger than you! I could beat you in battle! All of you!"

Was Odium trying to get Ruinare to improve his strength, or was she just riling him up for no reason? Regardless, it seemed to be working. "Well, we should be heading to the Trainers' School now," I said.

"Good idea, Miss Elaine," Tenebris said.

...

"Here we are," Lillie said, standing in front of a building surrounded by a stone gate. "You see the Trainers' School is...Is...What in the world?!"

Lillie got interrupted by a Tauros roaring loudly. "Oh, a Tauros!" I gasped. "I used to be so scared of them when I was younger, and since dad was a farmer, I had to see them pretty often."

"I don't believe I've ever seen your father," Lillie muttered. "Does he not live with you?"

I shook my head. "He stayed back in Kanto to take care of his farm, while mom and I moved to Alola." While caught up in conversation, I came to the realization that we hadn't even gone into the Trainers' School yet. "Oh, wait, shouldn't we be going into the school now?"

"Oh, right, yeah," Lillie said, her eyes wide. "Let's go."
