You looked over from your place in your living room when you heard the door to your dinky apartment open. The loud creaking of it was hard to ignore as it was pushed open. You couldn't help but think of who would be here, or better yet, who would want to be here. You were half-convinced that the people who lived below you were drug dealers.

"(Y/N)! Good news!" Your niece, Tome, shouted as she sped over to the couch you were currently laying on. "I found this cabin in the woods nearby my school, I'm not too sure if it's abandoned or not, it's not really in the best shape. We can find out this weekend, though."

Tome always visited you every now and then, she thought you were lonely living all by yourself with a job you didn't even like. You appreciated her, her stays always made you feel less stressed.

"We? Go by yourself." You said, wrapping a blanket around you as you fell back on a pillow.

"Come onnnnnnn," The paranormal-obsessed girl whined, "I don't wanna go alone. It's so much more fun when you come." She explained, slouching and dramatically throwing a hand against her forehead.

"I'm busy." You weren't technically lying, you still had a few papers left to do, but a break might be good for you.

"No, you're not, you're just lazy. It'll be good for you to get out of your house, it's starting to smell in here."

You sat up suddenly, glaring at your very persistent niece, "Whatever, I'll go with you." You said, throwing one of the pillows at her.

"Yessss" She grinned at you, obviously happy she convinced you. "So, how's your job doing? Have you finally  decided on what career path you're gonna change to?"

You groaned, rubbing your temples and getting up as you responded, "No, not yet, it's hard picking something to do for the rest of your life."

She shrugged, "You don't have to stick with it, there are plenty of adults who float from job to job."

"Yeah?" You asked, opening a window, "How many of those adults make a stable living?"

"Just marry a rich man." Tome said, sitting down at the table in your kitchen.

"That'd solve a lot of my problems," You sighed, "You hungry?"

She nodded eagerly, "Y'know," she started as you turned on the oven, "I made this folder full of jobs I think you'd like." You watched her take a heavy-looking green folder out of her backpack and set it in front of her.

"Really?" You giggled lightly, "Read some off to me."

Tome never failed to surprise you with how far she was willing to go for the people she cared about. She was so over the top, it was one of your favorite traits of hers. It made her already unexpected visits more bewildering.

"Maid or Housekeeper, since you're such a good cook and you have a weird habit of cleaning your apartment when you're sad." You rummaged through your pantry for the mac n cheese box as she read off her notes. "You could probably find your rich husband being a maid too" She giggled when you threw a rag at her.

You wished you had the same amount of confidence and carefreeness that she had. It'd save you all the time you'd spent worrying about your future.

"Photographer, because you like to explore different places and focus a bit too much on small details."

You put the pot full of water on the stove as you waited for it to boil, as you listened to Tome talk about all these different jobs.

"Y'know, I head photography is a very calming job since you're usually in nature or something like that. I think it'd be good for you to have a job that doesn't make you exhausted every week."

"I agree, it's hard being tired every day." You said, "The mac n cheese is done."

The middle schooler quickly closed the folder and set it aside on the table for you to look through later. She ran up to you and took the bowl you made for her before dragging you over to the table so you could eat with her.

"How's school?" You asked her, blowing on your food.

"Same as always," She said, taking a bite of the food, "Oh wait! I managed to get an esper to join my club." She grinned, excitedly.

"I didn't even know you had any espers in your school." You commented, looking over at the girl.

"Me neither, he's super awkward."

"I assume your clubs doing well then?" You chuckled.

"Yeah! Now that we have an esper, we're pretty much set. I'll have to show you all the notes I have from asking him questions and things."

"Speaking of espers, I met one yesterday."

"Really? You? Speaking to someone other than me?" She joked, acting as if she were told the world was going to die out in the next week.

"Shut it." You said, pointedly. "It was raining and he walked me to my apartment."

"Oh?" Tome smirked at you, "Sounds romantic. How do you know he's an esper?"

"I found him in the yearbook, we went to the same school." You explained, "I remember some accident surrounding him, but no one ever knew what happened exactly, just that he disappeared. I'd like to meet him again to ask him more about it."

"Awee, wait, do you like him?" She asked, poking your shoulder.

You chuckled a bit at her childishness, "No," You denied, "I just want to get to know him better."

"Whatever you say~" She teased, "Maybe he's the rich guy you've been waiting for."

"Shut up," You smiled at her, glancing out the window. "It's getting dark, you should start heading home."

"Ok, ok." She said, running over to put her dish in the sink before grabbing her bag and heading out. "I'll be back this weekend, don't forget about it." She called, before sprinting out the door.

What a strange kid, you thought to yourself. You smiled as you locked your door, you were lucky to have her in your life.
