Chapter 8

- 2 day time skip -
(You and Hernando haven't hung out in these 2 days)

-Y/N POV-

Me and Julieta were helping Abuela set up dinner. Apparently Isabella was getting engaged tonight. Though she seemed less than thrilled when Camilo was teasing her about it. Julieta set a pan down on the counter and sighed.

"Julieta? Can I ask you something?" I ask as I drizzled some sugar on the cookies she made for dessert. "Sure, what is it?" She asked as she blew off the steam on the food. "Who was Bruno? I heard Mirabel say his name in town and everyone said they didn't talk about him. Was he apart of your family?" I ask cautious of my tone. She looked down then looked at me. I could see a flash of sadness in her eyes.

"Yes.. Bruno was apart of our family. He left one day without saying why or where. He was me and Pepas brother." She said rubbing her hands on her apron. "No one knows why he left.. most people saw him as the family's black sheep. We just don't discuss him.." she said her tone going quite. "Don't mention Bruno around the family.. or anyone." She said her voice getting more serious. I nodded and looked away. Weird.. I grab the plates, casita helping me set the table along the way.

As the table was done and set Julieta walked in with the food. Luisa brought in as many glasses of water as she could. I thanked her and sat down. Julieta called out to the rest of the family to come eat. As they piled in Julieta quickly took a seat beside me.

"Thank you Julieta and Y/N for making this lovely dinner." Abuela Alma said as she sat down smiling. She clapped her hands together and turned to look at Ms.Guzmán. Mariano as I heard Camilo called him was sitting beside his mother. Isabella looked around anywhere but him.

Awkward..

As we ate dinner and chatted Mirabel got up to excuse her self quickly. I shrugged it off and talked to Julieta and her husband. As the dinner ended Mariano got Luisa to bring out the piano. He began to play a sweet love song. Abuela and his mother loved it. Dolores seemed to be day dreaming while staring at him. Isabella faked smiled and clapped her hands.

We all watched as Mariano purposed. Isabella batting her eyes and awkwardly saying yes. We all cheered. Casita opened the doors to a crowd of towns people cheering on the other side.

We all went out and celebrated. The day neared to an end making me wonder if Hernando would be out tonight. He wasn't out for two days now. I let the thought slip to the back of my mind as I danced around with Julieta.

-'Hernandos' POV-

"I can't Samuel.." I say pacing back and forth in my room. "I can't go see her again! Last time was so.. ugh! I feel different about her.." I say sitting down in my old arm chair. "I can't explain it.. I've never felt this way before." I say leaning my head back. I was desperate to get over this weird feeling I had in my chest when I thought of her.

Samuel squeaked and ran up to my lap. He let out a huff and sat there listening to me. "It's like.. she's my missing half. She's a great friend to me. I can't go back around her though! What if I slip up? What if she knows who I am? Will she ever wanna be with me if she knows I'm Bruno the freak?! " I cover my face with my hands and shake.

Samuel nips at my poncho and tugs on it. I give in and stand up picking him up in the process. I slid off my poncho and put on a raggedy brown button up shirt. It would do. I headed out of the picture frame and snuck my way outside. Samuel sat on my head the whole way out.

I jumped slightly panicked at the sight outside. I forgot Isabella was being engaged today. Idiot.. I mentally scold my self. I snuck around the crowd through the bushes. I stopped and peered through the leaves of the bush I was in. Samuel popped his head out of the crock of my shirts neck.

There was Y/N dancing with my sister Julieta. I sigh and thought of a plan. I had to distract her so she'd come to me. What if she brought Julieta though? Then I'd be caught. Come on 'Hernando' you got this.

I brushed off my shirt as I stood up from the bush. I snuck over a little closer and threw a rock at Y/N's feet. She looked down but paid no attention. I huffed and looked around. Finding another rock. I gently threw it at her again. It hit her ankle. She looked up and around. I waved my hand slightly to get her attention.

She looked at me and stopped dancing. She talked to Julieta for a moment then excused her self. She walked over to me and pulled me into a hug. I froze my hands being held out one hand had my finger pointing up.

"Where have you been Hernando?" She asked worriedly and pulled away. I looked at her and smiled nervously. Just stay calm "oh ya know.. I was going to bed a little early.. and forgot." I lied while forcing a smile. She gave me a look. She wasn't buying it but she said nothing. "Okay." She said pulling away from me slightly.

You messed up 'Hernando' so much for being brave and a non liar "I'm sorry Y/N I really am." I say looking down. "It's fine Hernando.. wanna join the party?" She offered a small smile appearing on her face.

"Oh no no.. I can't umm.. not a party person." I chuckle and scratch the back of my head. She rolled her eyes playfully and patted my head. "Okay Hernando, what ever you say." She sends me a wink. Obvious it was a joke.. thought I wished other wise.

"Then I'll see you around cariñoa?" She asked a smirk growing in her face as my cheeks lit up red. "Ugh ya- ya you will..! I mean Sí!" I said fumbling with my word nervously.

"Alright well , meet me by the river in an hour okay? It shouldn't be too late then you should be able to stay up." she said giving me a look. She knows I was lying earlier.. man she's good "okay.. I'll be sure to meet you there.." I say waving as I quickly snuck off.

What was this woman doing to me? Is it a blessing or a curse?

(We aren't staying true to the movie. I wanna kinda make this book it's own little thing. Plots from the movie will be added and Dolores will get her man back lol)
