A traumatized mind abandons all notions of logic in favor of a miniscule chance of mending the hidden scars by either ignoring them or wearing oneself out to undo them.
So in a fit of desperation, driven by a consuming desire for revenge, when presented with what her mind interpreted as a chance at normalcy, Marinette found it absolutely reasonable to use violence and hurt the one person she loved most in order to get what she wanted.
That's a healthy thought process, right?
Except, beyond the constant pounding in her ears and the shakiness of her limbs, her perception of her surroundings was limited to mere flashes of her partner's heartbroken eyes.
She wasn't aware of the helicopters watching the fight closely, or of the concerned citizens gathering.
She wasn't even aware of Nadja nearby reporting the current exchange between her and her partner. But of course, even the most competent of reporters found no explanation for their ongoing clashing, so to satiate the curiosity and extinguish the worry of the Parisians, Nadja settled for wishful thinking and baseless optimism and spoke to her microphone with the calmest tone she could muster, "the fight between Paris's saviors has been going on for quite some time now, with neither party using their special moves. Neither of them has sustained any serious injury, with Chat staying on the defensive trying to evade Ladybug's attacks.
"The reasons as to why our heroes are in such predicament are still unknown, although this marks the first sighting of Ladybug since the last tragedy, so at least there's something to celebrate. Ladybug, Chat Noir, please if you can hear this, Paris needs its heroes to fight together, not turn on each other so please end this."
Concern and worry were evident on everyone's faces, Chat could see that. What he could also see, is the slight, almost unnoticeable change in his lady's expression when she lands a hit.
A change that spoke of worry and concern and perhaps eve regret, wherein for a shadow of a moment, her true self slips through the cracks of her inner turmoil.
She's still in there, I can get to her.
"My Lady, please, can't you see that Paris has been through enough, that WE've been through enough. Now more than ever, we need to fight together. This is exactly what he wants, this has been his plan all along and I know that you're aware of this too." He was suppressing his sobs, and he was unsuccessful. He wondered if she could see the shine in his eyes from the tears that threatened to fall.
"His plan..." there was a scowl on her expression as her eyes beautiful bluebell eyes had a tint of darkness that Adrien wished to never see again "Or YOUR plan, what kind of game are you playing Chat Noir, have you too plotting this? Trying to win over my heart so you can steal my miraculous when I least expect it?"
He knew that everything she was saying what simply her rage talking, that if she was in her right state of mind such words, such thoughts would never even cross her mind, it was all just a distraction.
Then why did this one cut too deep into his already bruised heart?
He could hear his heartbeat increasing, but he still tried to maintain control over his emotions:" don't you DARE say such nonsense! After everything we've been through? NEVER QUESTION MY LOYALTY TO YOU BECAUSE IT'S ALWAYS BEEN YOU AND ME AGAINST THE WORLD AND YOU KNOW DAMN WELL I'D NEVER BETRAY US!" he likes to think that the shouting was unintentional.
