Due to my horrible memory, I have decided to create a class seating plan for my future self and also your reference for a better picture of scenarios hahaha🌚 I'd like to point out that the random names around the seating plan are some of my followers on Instagram where they volunteered to be "canon" in this story! (However, they most likely won't appear in the story itself)

The pair finally arrived to class, Hiccup still carrying Astrid's swim bag. As she took her seat, he placed it on the ground by her desk before taking his own seat next to her. Astrid turned to face her backpack behind her, unexpectedly locking eyes with the girl she called her best friend merely a few desks away. Heather had a mischievous smirk on her face, wiggling her eyebrows with a nod towards Hiccup. In return, Astrid's piercing blue eyes gave a burning glare, as if warning her best friend to cut it out. Heather snorted before being distracted by Hiccup getting up from his seat.

The lanky frame of the Haddock skulked towards her as Astrid turned to face frontwards to check her swim bag once again, not noticing his departure. Heather kept her eyes on the boy as he approached her before kneeling down next to her desk.

"What's up? You seem kinda bothered by something," Heather asked the kneeling boy, who turned to glance back at Astrid. The blonde was now fidgeting her fingers and tapping a foot, staring dead ahead at the whiteboard.

Both Heather and nosy Fishlegs behind her followed his gaze, noticing Astrid's unusual behaviour. "H, she seems to be far more bothered," the chubby boy whispered without taking his eyes off the blonde girl in the distance.

"He's right, and I wanted you to take note that her dad has said to not mention the evaluation to keep her distracted from her fears. Just informing her best friend of course," Hiccup added, turning back to Heather, patting her hand on the desk.

Her green eyes widened when Hiccup spoke, realising the extreme pressure Astrid must be going through at that moment. Flashbacks from her own gymnastics evaluation ran through her mind, recalling a moment where she had slipped during a routine. Nevertheless, she was fortunate enough that Ryker was a more understanding person than the principal, accepting her onto the school's troupe against the harsh criticism Mildew expressed. Even though he was the principal, Ryker would be more knowledgeable than him in the athletics department, and with Heather winning for the national championships for the school the following year, it proved Mildew wrong.

"Oh you know that with the amount of experience she's had she could beat that clock no matter what. Why does she worry?" Snotlout, who had clearly been eavesdropping on his journey to his seat as he arrived to class, slid by and knelt beside Hiccup.

"It's just her worries, Snot. I'm sure you were pressured too when you were tested before your team selection," Fishlegs spoke up to him while both Heather and Hiccup rolled their eyes.

"Pah, I wasn't worried at all. I'm confident I could make it anywhere I wanted to," the stocky football player snapped back, swinging his arm out and flexing it proudly.

"That's just overconfident..."

"Alright guys, enough. Just... help her with the nerves. I need not tell the twins since what they usually do will definitely be most effective," Hiccup interrupted as he got up. With that, the small group of what appeared to be gossiping teens dispersed, returning to their desks. As Hiccup took his seat next to Astrid, she remained unfazed, still completely unconscious to his short absence.

The teacher walked in, her hands clasped together as she took a glance at every student in the room. Her eyes stopped at the desks behind Fishlegs that happened to be empty. "So the twins didn't show up huh? Looks like we'll be having peace and quiet tod-"

"We're here! Jeez, Mildew needs to take a chill pill, we just wanted to see how far the drinking fountain could shoot," Tuffnut announced as he and his sister came staggering in, both clearly exhausted from running.

This definitely caught the overwhelmed blonde girl's attention. "I thought they supposedly never get into trouble?" Astrid whispered to Hiccup, who let out a slightly pained hiss with a wince in response.

"Well... even though Mildew was nice to you when you first came, he's actually the greatest obstacle for all students. Hardest to please, the absolute meanest, and nothing is ever amusing in his books. I'd pay you fifty bucks if you ever get on his good side as a regular student," Hiccup elaborated, his arms flailing about as he spoke.

Totally unaware of his actions, he seemed puzzled when he noticed Astrid stifle a giggle. A small smile slipped onto his face in delight as he turned back to face the teacher, knowing in some way he had lightened her mood. What he didn't know was how much she loved his dorky attitude and how oblivious he was to his own manners.

With red tinted cheeks, Astrid reverted all her attention to the teacher as well. She glanced at the clock. 8.30am. It was going to be a long day...

Except it didn't. Classes and recess zoomed past at nearly lightning speed, leaving Astrid in need for a breather. However, as usual, the twins were up to their usual antics that never failed to make the everyone laugh, and Hiccup always calmed her tangled nerves with just his sweet smile alone.

Science class didn't make her butterfly emotions any better. Being paired or in groups for the assignment, the teacher shifted the whole class to ensure students of similar topics sat together for discussions. Astrid sat right in front of Hiccup, while Fishlegs sat next to her with Heather opposite him. The blonde boy pulled out a file of paperwork, and with silent communication with his best friend, Hiccup followed in suit with his own. Astrid made eye contact with the raven haired girl right next to Hiccup, who only shrugged at their nerdy punctual behaviour. All her sharp green eyes said was "it's normal." With plans already drafted out by the two boys prior, they commenced their discussion.

Being directly opposite Hiccup did permit her to stare straight into the piercing, mesmerising forest green eyes of his as he spoke. Then she was reminded of the fact that it's rather creepy to be ogling at any person for too long. If only she could work up the guts to confess her feelings... but no! They were still new friends. Heather, Fishlegs, Snotlout, the twins, they were all new friends. Part of her nagged at herself, believing her intrusion and forcing her heart onto Hiccup would just cause disruption to the dynamic of the tightly-knit gang. Astrid for sure didn't want to be viewed as the girl who came in and stole their best mate of his time from them.

Yet, those were all worries for a situation whereby she wasn't rejected. Shaking her thoughts from her head, Astrid decided to let it grow slowly. She wasn't in a rush for a relationship, nor did she ever plan to be in one so soon. That moment of self reflection really started to concern her about the amount of overthinking she actually does. Maybe she'll confide with Heather about them on a girls' date. But right now, the bell rang. It was dismissal time, AKA two hours away from her evaluation. Her stomach tied into a knot.
