A/N: Warning: heavy material, angst, gore warning

An early Thursday morning. Foggy, cold, miserable. The only three words that Dazai could think of when he looked out the window. It was early, and the reason why Dazai was up at that time was because the agency gave him a solo job. He needed to attend a meeting Fukuzawa set up with a different government agency. Dazai groggily rolled off of his mattress and trudged down the hall in his pajamas and a robe.

On the way to the kitchen, he peeked into the room of Jenna and Athina who were still sleeping peacefully in their beds, only making noise if they shuffled about in their sheets. Dazai closed the door, not wanting to disturb them.

Once he found himself in the kitchen, he poured a cup of coffee and sat at the kitchen table in complete silence, staring down at his cup until the liquid became completely still. He realized he didn't want it anymore. Too bitter. So he tossed it and walked back down the hallway and into his room to get dressed. Same outfit as usual, nothing different.

Walking down the streets of Yokohama certainly didn't lift Dazai's spirits. He passed by busy streets and fallen leaves, maybe other miserable businessmen walking by him in a rush.

'Is this the meaning of life?'

No. Of course it wasn't. How could it be? But some things could stump the most genius man on earth. And this was something that constantly stumped Dazai.

Finally. Finally he got to the subway. checking his watch, he made sure he didn't miss his train.

'Five minutes.'

Five minutes to make a decision.

The station wasn't too crowded on a Saturday morning, but there were still at least five or six people around him. It was quiet. If he hadn't looked around him he would have thought that he was completely alone.

Dazai made no eye contact with them as three minutes passed by. So he stared at the ground with a tiresome and blank expression on his face. Staring deeply into the yellow border between the platform and the tracks. Re-reading the letters painted in black ink before the yellow border was reached.

'Danger: Do not pass this point.' He read to himself over and over again, making sure he understood. That's when he vaguely heard the sound of metal against metal.

'Two minutes, too early...' The sound of the train got closer and closer until it's lights were in view. They were almost blinding to Dazai, so he closed his eyes...

And took one fateful step over the yellow line.

Two minutes, too early.

The horn was blown from the conductor of the early train, but it was far too late.

The agency members gathered one by one into the office to start their busy day. Athina and Jenna came in early for the first time in a while and were greeted by Yosano and Kunikida who were already at their desks with paperwork.

"I'm glad to see the two of you here," Yosano says, surprised at the two girls' early arrival. The two then looked at each other and then turned to smile back at Yosano who patted each of their heads.

"It was my idea," Jenna said, "I wanted to surprise dad when he gets back from his early meeting!"

"I'll give Jenna the credit. I wouldn't have woken up for Osamu if it wasn't for her," Athina said playfully, making Jenna nudge her arm jokingly.
