"You really think having a soulmate is true?"-
Junkyu, a 22 year old mature boy, had no faith in the much fantasized tale of two people destined to be connected by a thread of fate, labelled so mythically as 'soulmates'. He was intelligent, practical and had zero interest in a dramatic love life. He was living in his youth, yet he was as bland as someone living for at least 50 years in the planet, witnessing almost all of life's problems.
"I really wish I meet my soulmate in my time of youth." Yoon Jaehyuk, a man only a year younger than Junkyu spoke. Unlike Junkyu, he was pretty hyped up about the mysterious soulmates agenda.
Junkyu seemed to find his statement childish, hence laughed it off as an adult does, "You really think such a thing exists?"
Jaehyuk was used to Junkyu not taking his well dreamt fantasy seriously. He looked at the elder raising a brow, maybe even a little bit annoyed, "Hyung! Many of our parents say that they felt strange when they met their soulmates for the first time! It's like- like a connection that's not explainable!"
Junkyu shook his head, "Oh is that so?" He kept mocking the possibility of finding something not unraveled by science yet. "Then why didn't I feel it when I met me exes?"
Jaehyuk shrugged, "Well, maybe they were not your soulmates."
Junkyu snorted, "Then why did we fall in love in the first place?" He poked Jaehyuk on the chin with his index finger, "Because the feeling of falling, how can I say it? It defies your logic of feeling 'connected' only with a destined someone."
Jaehyuk shook his head sideways, "Whatever you say. I believe I will meet my perfect soulmate one day!" He pointed his thumb at his own chest, "And I'm gonna come to you and brag about it."
Junkyu waved his hand in dismissal. Jaehyuk didn't prolong the topic. In the end, it didn't matter if having a predetermined soulmate is true or not, he just wanted to find his own, irreplaceable love.
"Eat up, I'll take my leave." Junkyu said. Jaehyuk was eating at the university cafeteria with Junkyu. It was funny- him, the most outgoing person meeting Junkyu, the introverted, uninterested in life kinda person and bonding. Jaehyuk really liked Junkyu's company, not just because he got free food every time!
"Thanks for your treat, hyung!" Jaehyuk gave Junkyu a dimpled smile. Sometimes the smile stretched up to his cheeks, bringing out the whisker like pair of cleavages on both sides of them. He looked absolutely adorable.
"No problem." Junkyu smiled. He already took his heavy coat in hand. With his bag hanging from his left shoulder, he left. He didn't wanna miss the subway train home.
The station was near his university. It took him only some minutes long walk to reach that. He lived far from his institution. Therefore, the subway train was one of his essentials.
The weather was quite chilly, but not too much to put on the heavy padded coat. Junkyu kept waiting for his train, shivering a little on his own. In a few minutes, the train arrived, Junkyu got in. It was a busy time, naturally causing crowds of people inside the coach. In a way, Junkyu liked it, contrary to his personality. The emitted carbon dioxide was at least keeping him warm!
Junkyu didn't find a seat unoccupied. He took his stand near the door, grabbing a handle to keep himself steady. The train was moving, swaying him in a melodic manner. Junkyu felt sleepy, but couldn't due to the strain on his legs for standing for a while.
The train stopped in the next stop. People came in, Junkyu barely cared. Luckily, no one seemed interested in the small space in front of him. Good. It was quite good for him. He prayed no one actually took the spot. The next stop would be where he got down, he liked to stay the rest of the time unnoticed.
The door was about to close. To Junkyu's delight, no one actually stood across from him. A faint smile of contentment appeared on Junkyu's lips, unseen by anyone. The door's gonna close soon. In just a few seconds...
As if like the swift blow of wind in a winter storm, an existence occupied the available small spot in front of Junkyu. He was a boy, a school going boy to be more specific. He was tall, buff and naturally in a rush.
"Ah! I made it in time!" He whispered to himself, controlling the inertial motion he still had left in him. He would have bumped into Junkyu otherwise. And the fear of it made Junkyu look at him with wide eyes.
"I'm sorry I-" the words that the boy tried to convey to Junkyu were left unspoken. And the shape of the mouth where he stopped was unaltered. He froze on spot, staring at Junkyu in utter bewilderment.
And Junkyu, he didn't know what attracted him towards the boy's honey caramel eyes. He felt a shock, a quiver down his spine, ripples in all his blood vessels. He hadn't felt similar rush of adrenaline in a long time.
His fingertips trembled, they moved on their own to touch the school going boy's baffled eyes. It felt, as if Junkyu could see the rise and fall of his chest. Maybe the young boy was feeling the same way as him? That the universe around them stopped, only leaving the two to get lost in each other's hazed gaze.
The boy stumbled backwards when Junkyu's hand ever so slightly touched his cheeks. It brought Junkyu back to reality. He felt like dying out of embarrassment. What got into him!? Why did he want to touch a random stranger?!
Junkyu didn't look at the boy throughout the entire ride. Not even when the boy steadied himself a second time and he mumbled a 'sorry.' He wanted the ground to open up and swallow him as a whole! He kept pondering about the reason behind his abrupt action.
But nothing explained why he had to feel such a weird fascination towards the boy's amazed, brown eyes and artistic, trembling lips.
