To say the last week had been eventful felt like a sorely lacking statement.
It was a miracle that the Malfoys and I had made it to the day of the party without one of us hexing the other.
People were coming in and out of the house, setting up the grand living room and I was under strict orders, from Draco, that, under no circumstances, was I allowed to peak.
"Is this a surprise party now?" I asked Draco as he blocked me on the stairs.
"I'm serious Y/N," Draco said scowling. It was hilarious how seriously Draco was taking his role of party planner.
"Well can I go to the kitchen to at least get food?" I asked.
"Fine but you can't look in the living room," he demanded and I smiled humorously.
"Okay I wont. I'll even make the unbreakable vow," I mocked, pulling out my wand.
"Don't joke about that," Lucius scolded from where he stood on the lower stairs beyond Draco.
I snorted, leaning in to say to Draco, but still loud enough for Lucius to hear, "Maybe this party will be good for him, too. Seeing as he always has a stick up his—" Draco coughed to cover his laugh.
"Mr. Malfoy, may I please have a word?" a man dressed like a butler interrupted before I could finish and Lucius, looking baffled at my words, reluctantly turned his attention to the man.
A smirked was plastered on my face as I walked passed Lucius and the man, Draco trailing behind me to make sure I didn't peak. When we got to the bottom he placed his hands on my shoulders steering me away from the living room.
Of course, it was impossible not to see the floating tables and chairs coming through the door, but still, I made an effort to at least pretend I hadn't seen a thing.
After preparing my midday snack in the kitchen, the seamstress who had made my dress, who's name I'd learned was Harriet, waltzed in the dining room as I exited the kitchen.
"Y/N, Lucius said to bring this to you," she said, eyeing the cereal in my hands, holding out the garment cover that drapped over both her arms.
"I'll take that for her," Draco said snatching it up. I gave Draco and smirk then turned to Harriet.
"Thank you for making it in such short notice," I said gratefully and she nodded with a smile.
"Anything for the Malfoys," she said eyeing Draco and he just lifted his eyebrows.
"Anything?" he said lifting his eyebrows, eyeing her body shamelessly and stepping in front of me. Harriet's lip quirked up.
Draco seemed to be getting back to his more upbeat self, which meant more of his shameless flirting.
I contorted my face in displeasure.
"I can walk you out, Harriet," I said turning my attention to her.
"Nonsense, I can walk her out," Draco immediately said and suddenly my dress disappeared from his hands.
Before I could ask, Draco answered with a sidelong glance, "Relax, it's in your room."
I rolled my eyes and sat down at the dining room table to finish my cereal.
"Thank you Mr. Malfoy," she said to him. I inhaled the milk in surprise at how she'd addressed him, coughing into my sleeve. They both looked at me in concern.
"Sorry," I mumbled, grabbing a napkin.
Harriet and Draco were ogling each other as Draco escorted her out. I was as good as not there.
