Dinner Before Desert

I took a good, long look at myself in the mirror.

My hair was styled and I'd squeezed myself into a [y/n's favorite dress style and heels].

Sirus had quickly written back—in his ever so elegant handwriting that made me feel slightly bad for having rushed my own— and invited me to a very upscale restaurant that overlooked the River Thames.

I'd looked into the dress code and it was black tie, while the prices of wine were well...not listed—which meant they were most likely extremely expensive.

I'd be leaving after dinner with the Malfoys—and, yes I theoretically had enough time that I could've gotten all dressed up afterwards but maybe—a very not so secret— part of me had wanted to show off.

To see Lucius's reaction to how I looked.

Just as one 'friend' to another.

Gods I was petty.

Draco whistled as I walked into the dining room and I flashed him a small grin.

Both Draco and his father were already seated and had begun dinner.

The later's eyes went slightly wide as he took me in, his fork had paused halfway to his mouth.

I wallowed in satisfaction internally, though I didn't show it.

I met his stare with a raised brow and he quickly looked away, placing his fork on his plate then going for his drink.

I sat across from Draco who was giving me the sort of look that was usually reserved for those he was about to shamelessly flirt with.

"Oh come off it," I said to Draco with a roll of my eyes and he gave me a suggestive look.

I knew he was teasing, though his father....

I dared a glance and—though he looked to be ignoring us— his knuckles had turned white where he was clutching his fork.

"What's the occasion?" Draco asked.

"Just seeing a friend for drinks."

"Mhmmm," Draco emphasized with a sarcastic tone that said he didn't quite believe me.

Lucius tensed slightly, but his expression remained cool.

"You're really going to go out when there's a threat on your life?" Lucius scoffed.

"Do you expect me to just lay around like a house cat? And besides, I was going to ask if I could use your floo. The network is secure enough that I should be safe."

His eyes narrowed on me for a few seconds but he ground out, "Fine."

"Thank you," I said with a Cheshire cat smile. I placed a napkin in my lap and started eating.

Okay I was being kind of a dick ... but I couldn't stop myself.

A couple moments of tense silence ensued—though Draco seemed completely oblivious to it as he scarfed down his food. It seemed like summer quiddach conditioning was working him twice as hard as usual.

"Could you at least lower yourself to let us know the bloke's name," Lucius said with a quiet intensity— his eyes pinned on me.

The air in the room felt like it'd be sucked out.

I slid my own eyes to his.

He had on a tight smile that was not at all genuine.

Even Draco looked up at the question, not bothering to hide his curiosity.
